Andres Gomez played all 90 against Le Havre on 10/25 and scored Rennes goal in their 1-0 win. Their fans seem to like him. He consistently gets the team’s highest performance scores from the fans on Google when he sees the pitch.
I've been saying for years that we will know MLS is 'big time' when we start seeing some parity in transfers in and out of the league. Obviously, MLS is not there yet. Equally obviously, this is conclusive evidence that MLS is on the right road to that rank.
Its my understanding that Gomez lacked playing time early on because he was dealing with an injury. Seems like he's getting more playing time and scoring goals. If only we could've kept him for the playoffs...
Ex-RSL goalkeeper David Ochoa's rehabilitation continues: LAFC exercised their option on his contract.
U.S. Soccer Congrats to Nick Rimando, who was elected into the National Soccer Hall of Fame! - 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup Champion - 6x MLS All-Star - 2x MLS Cup winner
2013 was really upsetting. Ricketts x2? They gave Jimmy Nielsen and Luis Robles courtesy career GKotY awards. But not Nicky!
Hard to believe we went into a season with this fellow as our number one striker: Just signed a multi-year deal with the Charleston Battery
The unacceptable, but likely, explanation is the Front Office during his career didn't know what they were doing. Those voting for these awards don't have magical insight into all the league's players and the nuances of their contributions to a club's success. For instance, and more obviously, Heisman Trophy contenders have their colleges lobbying vigorously to the sports media. It's obviously needed in NCAA football because it could well be the greatest running back of the season is playing at Weber State. But, he's not getting coverage because Weber is not doing well. If Weber spreads the word via their public relations department journalists see that his numbers compare to the big name at the big school and they watch a game or two and note that he's seriously good and why TF is he playing at Weber when he could be starting for Notre Dame? Maybe that leads to discussion "Heard about that kid at Weber?", a paragraph in an article about leading candidates, etc. He's suddenly has "In Contention for Heisman" attached to his name. He may not get the nod, but his profile rises. Next year he starts with a hand already on the trophy. I'll wager RSL did nothing or a crappy job lobbying for their players and that's where the failure to recognize Rimando came from. I think the Keeper of the Year trophy should have been named after Nicky as a recognition of his career spanning excellence. But, I wasn't in a position to lobby for that.... and maybe RSL wasn't either.
