That same lack of trust is fueled by the fanbase The number of negative comments associated with an academy product vs an outside signing is shocking when the difference in level of play really isn’t all that much different. holt is another one that gets just absolutely destroyed by fans for his level of play. Meanwhile Vera makes a play that directly costs the team 2 points and it’s just shrugged at
That is a fantastic point. I have tried to change how I perceive players by not solely focusing on one side or the other. The negatives or the positives. Like Gomez. He has some serious negatives that if Luna or others played like he does sometimes would see them on the Monarchs. I mean, what would Pablo M do if Luna took that shot in Miami and didn't play in a wide open Chicho? He might have yanked him right there. It's an interesting psychological question. The other players must be good because we brought them in and our home grown players must not be very good because we haven't sold them yet. I am not sold that Pablo is this great motivator and that this team knows how to get the most out of young players. This is probably the season we get more an answer on both those thoughts.
Apparently Caliskan was a highly rated prospect in the draft last year that fell a bit due to his international status. Sounds like Jasper again.
I have no problem with the team signing him. That’s fine. I do take issue that he spent zero % of our preseason with the team and got subbed into our first game, a very high profile one at that.
To be fair, Gomez had a much improved game at St Louis. He’s not perfect . He’s young. That’s going to happen. If he’s making perfect decisions he’s either getting sold or rsl is having to sign a DP deal my point with academy players is much more focused on the unbalanced criticism I see lobbed their way. It’s perplexing. For a place that loves to boast community aspects we seemingly give zero thought of how damn cool it is a kid from Layton is getting paid to play on a professional team minutes away. That shit, imo, should be celebrated like crazy. It’s just kind of an afterthought for so many and I find that incredibly sad
I turned into Vancouver-Charlotte to watch the reunion of Damir and Meram, only to learn that Meram was released by Charlotte and is without a club. No retirement announcement though. Damir played 65 and barely saw the ball.
Probably not a lot of room on the roster but wouldn’t Meram fit nicely in this system? Just saying. Just a question.
Scott Caldwell - without a team and presumably retired after his RSL contract ended - inaugurated an odd, awkward, new "throw the tea into the harbor" sort of pregame ritual in New England today: New tradition unlocked 🔓Prior kickoff @scaldwell15 threw the inaugural Tea Create from The Fort! pic.twitter.com/gwQq3BBQ7C— New England Revolution (@NERevolution) March 3, 2024
Moose subbed into Seattle’s home match against SJE while they were down 2-0. Ruidiaz scored soon after on a soft penalty. Then Moose absolutely embarrassed Frenchy Paul Marie (who is 5’7” 150#) on a headed cross on the corner of the 6 placed perfectly in the bottom corner to level. SJE scored soon after on a very pretty combo play to win it at 3-2.
From the weekly "One Thing About Each Team" article on the league website: "One of the most underrated signings of the offseason? When D.C. United acquired defender Aaron Herrera from CF Montréal. The Guatemalan international has been spectacular for Troy Lesesne's new-look squad."
I popped over to DCU’s last pbp thread, as they just played Montreal. A few posters gave him MotM, and they are all pretty happy with him.
Damir still out with an ankle injury; he has four starts and four sub appearances/311 minutes (one goal). Musovski with almost the same number of minutes - 315 - with two starts/14 appearances (one goal). The FO seems to have chosen wisely on both of these players.
Moose is on a team that can’t score. I have a hard time thinking he’s the problem there, but I do agree that losing him was not a catastrophe. If Chicho were to go out injured, we’d be in a world of hurt. Moose would be helpful giving him some rest at the very least.
Actually he really might. But he has to be rusty as all get out, with 6 sub appearances over 17 games (one assist). For his Guatemala NT career (and their hopes of making it to WC26) he needs regular minutes, so he'll want to go out on loan I think.
