So I spent a good part of my holiday weekend blasting the new Ex Models full length, Zoo Psychology, while speeding on 65 between Chicago and Louisville. This is a most excellent recording, though potential listeners should be warned that it's not as straight forward or melodic (as if the earlier quote didn't give you the idea) as Liars or the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, two of the better known associated bands. Much of it is absolutely brutal and executed with precision- Which is a must for them as they are constantly on the brink of dissolving into absolute chaos. Certainly confrontation and often funny (If you can't find the brilliance in the song title Hott 4 Discourse, I feel for you) this isn't exactly a throwback to earlier No Wave traditions- Actually, the band I think they sound the most alike is the mid 90's milwaukee band Xerobot. Who were fucking brilliant by the way. Anyway, I know I'm not the only person on these boards who likes a little Fluxus with their rock, so are there any other good no-wave soldiers out there I should hear? Thurston Moore, discussing Sonic Youth's decision to de-emphasive their noisy no wave beginnings and become more of a 'rock band'- "We realized that if we were to become any more confrontational, we would be GG Allin."
