    From SA MLS Confidential:

"MLS deputy commissioner Ivan Gazidis and
vice-president Nelson Rodriguez are in Europe discussing player and competition issues with national associations and clubs.U.S. World Cup team members Eddie Lewis, Frankie Hejduk and Joe-Max Moore have expressed interest in returning to MLS, and Earnie Stewart has broached the subject of a release from his Dutch club NAC Breda."

I think that the two players who would help the Metros the most would be Hejduk and Reyna. Will this actually happen-of course not. I would bet if all 4 players came back to MLS, not ONE of them would sign with Metros. Just a gut feeling. Nick would be too busy "persuing youth talent" in Azerbaijan or Iraq or some other f'd up place to sign a veteran US player. Again, just a gut instinct here.

No way Reyna's coming back any time soon. And Nick, from all I've heard, isn't involved in player moves anymore. Bob is Manager AND Director of Player Personnel.

I think Earnie Stewart would help.

    Joe-Max is useless.
Eddie Lewis would push Brad down the midfield ladder when we should be developing him.
Frankie Hejduk would be a good buy but he just moved to St. Gallen so I don't know if they would sell him.
Earnie Stewart is probably going to make a move to the MLS and he would be a great addition.

Earnie Stewart would be a great pickup. With Tab gone from the payroll, the money should be there to sign him. Besides, if the season started today, the starting forwards would be Mathis and Klinger (or Alvarez).

Stewart is aging, often knocked up, not a very good crosser, not always a deft finisher.......I think we can do just as well with a younger player.

Hejduk brings alot of speed and hustle, which is something we need along our slow backline. His speed could help cover the gaping holes we had this past season, plus proove to be a threat on the counterattack. His touch and crossing has improved slightly since his last MLS tenure, so it could be a good match for Metro.

I believe he's played pretty consistently for NAC Breda, although perhaps someone with more knowledge can chime in about his injury record.
But we don't need him to be a good crosser. We need someone who is an offensive threat, who can put the ball in the back of the net, who can work well with Clint, and who can provide some leadership and maturity to a team that is sorely lacking in that regard. A younger player might be able to score the goals, but they can't provide the other elements Stewart brings. And besides, getting Stewart and a younger player are not mutually exclusive propositions.

Just some nitpicking: Earnie Stewart is NOT an ex-MLSer. Nevertheless he would be help scoring goals even at the expense of max salary.

Why do I see the Metros trading one of their allocations to the Revs for Alex Pineda Chacon so that the Revs can bring back Joe Moore? It just seems such the "MLS - engineered move."

Would that be such a bad move? He didn't play much for reasons I don't know, but he seemed to contribute when he did (at least the games I did see.) If he is back to his form of two years ago, do you think he would fit in with the team?

I would have figured that Chacon would have been waived, but I don't really see him fitting into Bob Bradley's style. I guess to have him on the bench would be very nice. I'd give up the Diallo allocation for Chacon and Franchino.

Chacon would a good fit if Mathis plays as the striker, just like Serna in 2001.

Chacon was estimated to be making around $210K per year. That's pretty pricey for a bench player.

I disagree. The way I remember it: October 7, 2001 Joe-Max Moore was the man who punched our ticket to WC '02! He's got an incredible work rate and does produce in big matches. Granted, we don't need him on the Metro roster but it's important to give props where props are due.

We'd be better off with Stewart--that is, if he's not, as Sweeper put it, "knocked up".

It was more like Landon Donovan's work-rate. JMM took the spot and now reaps the accolade.

That may be true. But, you gotta admit, JMM put that ultra-high-pressure penalty away just as cool as a cucumber.

We should not trade our foreign allocation from Diallo for Chacon. Chacon can be great if teamed with Diego Serna - that is all I see as his strong points. Is New England such a "worldclass club" that they can bench such a good player - hell NO! He cannot produce consistently as I see it and that is NOT what the Metros need - and god forbid - what if he DOES come to Metros and asks for Serna to be dealt back to us in a trade - and I can SO see that happening if I close me eyes tight enough....
