I believe he has two wins, saved two PKs in a shootout and got man of the match at least once. Sounds like he's off to a great start.
Wouldn't be my first choice, but certainly would not be my last. I suspect his services will be well sought after in MLS. Probably needs to work on his FIFA A senior license. Assistant coach in 2025, head coach at some time thereafter?
Really gotta admire a guy who was never the greatest talent in the world but got the most out of every circumstance and always played like his life depended on it…not exactly sure how you teach THAT (other than leading by example).
I think that is the type of player who makes the best coach. Look at Steve Kerr. 50th pick in the NBA draft. Drifted around a bit early in his career. Good, solid role player. Never the greatest talent (except 3 point shots), but was a student of the game. Learned every step of the way. Took jobs in the front office, working his way up. Went into coaching, implement what he learned from the coaches where he played. Best coach going in his particular sport.
Thanks...you know, I had no idea whatsoever about the Kerr family history and after reading that how could anyone playing for him not feel inspired? I guess intangibles are always at play.
Agreed. I remember when he was playing for the Bulls hearing about his dad being killed when he was a teenager.
Winning the gold at the Olympics must have been pretty special, beyond how special it must normally be.
From BBC Sport Football - Gossip Chelsea have identified Aston Villa and Colombia forward Jhon Duran, 20, as an alternative to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen if they fail to sign the 25-year-old Nigeria international. (Givemesport)
damn been fun pulling for Villa and I could have pulled for him at West Ham, but not sure I can do so at Chelsea
I'm kind of secretly wishful that Patrick Nyarko does something like that for us, ever since I found out he was coaching for the Fire II. That team at least wins here and there! We'll see how he progresses... Pete (always liked that guy - hard worker even if he wasn't the greatest talent)
Yep, but Chelsea also "targeted" Duran in June, before West Ham's interest. This. West Ham has been "my" team in the EPL (which sucks) since the 1990's. I think he would have been a good fit there and a suitable accompaniment/replacement for Michail Antonio. I don't see him fitting in with Chelsea, but who does, really? They just spend a lot of money to "not quite" suck year in and year out.
Has Jhon accomplished anything yet? I get that he’s basically only three months away from being 21 but Guti seems far more effective at this point.
Looks like he’s .54 goals or assists per 90 across his career so that might be accelerating. Compared to similar players, it looks like he needs to get that up to .7 to be at the “next level” and at his age he might. EDIT: Shots per 90 is good. Shots on Target is not so good.
