Duka is no stranger to the people of Morris County (NJ), as he is well-known by FC Motown fans for leading the team to the NPSL National Championship in 2018 as one of their captains.
The Crew will celebrate @josh3williams, who retired following the '23 MLS Cup championship season, prior to Saturday’s match at @LowerFieldCbus. He'll be recognized during a pre-match ceremony and will sign autographs from 5:30-6:30 p.m.https://t.co/MqLdwSMQni— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) March 11, 2024
It should be noted that while Josh was born "in Akron" because that's where the hospitals are, his family is from Copley, which is where he grew up.
I was born “in Columbus” because that’s where the hospitals are, but grew up in Nelsonville. I’d often tell people I was near “Athens” or near “the Hocking Hills” because nobody knew where the hell Nelsonville is. (Technically, I lived about 10 minutes outside of Nelsonville closer to Lake Hope).
That’s where they used to be made. The factory closed down close to 20 years ago. They still have their corporate office and warehouse there. The store is a great place to get a nice pair of boots at a significant discount.
Copley considers itself a bit ritzy compared to Akron. Not exactly snobby like Hudson but definitely a cut above.
I thought the only people who cared about that movie were from Nelsonville. I loved that the scene at the fair kept the name “Parade of the Hills”.
For what it's worth Dilly was a stand up guy. HardHatMike and I met him in Philly when he was drafted. Very down to earth guy who was thankful for the opportunity. Mike and I also crashed the very first official Sons of Ben meeting in full Crew colors. We of course posted up at the bar and kept singing Crew songs during their meeting. Fun times.
What I remember most about them at that draft was when they announced that DC United was on the clock and the SoB's started chanting "Who are ya! Who are ya!" Well guys, they're an original 1996 team that has been in the league for 20 years and has four stars on their shirts while you guys have yet to even hold a practice and had exactly one player on your roster. If you want to cadge some European club chant, fine I guess, but at least pick one that makes some sense.
In another sign we're all getting older, the wiki tells me that Milenia Iribarren is now at least 32 and her nephew (Ricardo's grandson!) is playing soccer somewhere in Miami. Wherever Ricardo is these days, I hope life is treating him well. He really seemed to enjoy coaching in Columbus then...I forget how he left. Was it when Greggggg came in?
