Miguelol is out of contract. https://www.atlutd.com/news/atlanta...-roster-moves-ahead-of-2024-roster-mls-season
Soccer is such a cruel, unreasonable mistress. A forward goes 2 years and over 40 appearances with only one goal to show for it and boom, out on your ass. It's shocking really.
I've heard it all. Apparently the lotto where Danny Szetela was supposed to go to NY was actually rigged....get this...in OUR favor. All because Robert Warzycha was Polish and the league wanted Danny to live with Robert Warzycha. We all saw that draft. 100% fluke...right? (Unless this development is new to me, but I always thought Don Garber had the NY ball up his sleeve and that was what came out onto the floor when he pulled out the ball that said "Columbus" on it.)
That was the story at the time, yes. It may or may not have been true. If it wasn't, doesn't matter - it was a terrific tale. As for the Warzycha thing, I'm skeptical. Young Daniel had signed with MLS with the understanding that would play for the Metros not because of Don's slobbering manlove for anything New York but because Daniels mom lived 20 minutes from the stadium. He could stay home, eat Mom's cooking, get rides and bang all the Jersey Shore yeast incubators he wanted. He thought he deserved the same consideration that Freddy Adu got, being shipped to DC so Mom could tuck him in every night. They had been roommates and besties for a couple years and Danny felt he was every bit as worthy of an ass kissing as Fredua. But apparently no such promise was ever made beyond a rather vague "we'll see what we can do" kind of a thing. Which is why the kid looked like someone just shot his dog when the ball said "Columbus, motherf*cker" and Garber kept saying, right on camera, that there was every chance that Columbus would trade him to New York. The whole thing was the weirdest episode ever. But of course Garber had royally screwed over Dallas in the Adu grift, which stole the first pick from them and somehow ended up sending Chad Marshall - who was who everybody wanted anyway, Freddy or no, to Columbus. Dallas go the shaft, DC got a petulant, lazy, dope smoking kid and CBus got Marshall. Thanks for the Cup, Don. It's no wonder Don hates us; he's been trying to screw us for 20 years and it keeps blowing up in his face.
What if Don Garber is not trying to screw us, and that's all in our minds, and he is just a business man who works for the owners and wants his league to succeed? Crazy, I know, but seems to check out?
You can tip the scales in single entity. You can run a sports league where each franchise is treated equally. It's difficult to obviously tip the scales and claim you're treating every franchise equally. Of course, this started day one when some teams got a Donadoni and some teams got a Doctor.
I remember Danny's first postgame. Everyone was enjoying the times outside the tent...and here's Danny, all by himself in the corner and on his phone. As for as the Warzycha thing? If MLS bosses couldn't find a Polish "soccer family" in Columbus, they're blind idiots.
There definitely has been shiestiness throughout league history. There'd be certain players who were protected on the field. Our guys would have torn jerseys and the refs would signal for the game to continue. Either that or our guys just sucked at flopping. That shiestiness doesn't even count a new investor-operator coming in with the mission of deliberate sabotage when a nearby city has all the plans in place and are ready to go. If the league can put a "sexy" team in a larger market into MLS Cup, it could mean better ratings than, say, Columbus vs KC... especially in the early years.
I’ve mentioned before I would take Will Trapp on a team friendly deal as a back up CDM Mensah doesn’t fit our style of play so he won’t be back and shouldn’t
That might not be the option price, though. I think in the first round of that draft, you have to pick up the option.
Porter might be going to bean town I can confirm that the New England Revolution have had discussions with Caleb Porter. The team has also expressed interest in Robin Fraser and Dominic Kinnear.@TommyQuinlan_IV was first on Porter. #NERevs— Seth (@SethMan31) December 4, 2023
My first that was "What? No!". But I'd probably rather keep our ride hitched to Schulte right now, tbh
Why? I mean, I know he’s fallen way down if not off the USMNT ladder (which says something considering how loyal Gggg tends to be), has played all of two games at Man City but was loaned out to Middlesborough, where he at least got some playing time. Did his Man City contract end, or did he get released? Certainly his stock is way down, and maybe he wants to come back to the States. But Colorado? That’s really starting from the ground up. Since he came from the Crew, I’d see us having his rights, or at least rights of first refusal. I think Schulte is our future, and Zak would be the backup here, so somewhere other than here is a better option for him. But wouldn’t we get at least some compensation from the league or the Crapids?
