Man those south American countries fire coaches all the time. He and Argentina's coach were the only two with competitive game coaching experience in CONMEBOL
Admittedly, it's not the first thing I push for at every opportunity, it's the third. I have a list of things I bring up on every single call/meeting with the FO or ownership and I'm pretty sure they're tired of me bringing up the same three things for the last eight months: 1) Awards Night 2) Gear Sale 3) Circle of Honor I fully expect to see movement on the Gear Sale and Circle of Honor in 2024. Awards Night is a tougher nut to crack but I won't shut up about it.
I wonder how the collective agreement plays into an Awards Night. Guessing if you open the event up to the public, it counts towards their public appearances requirements and/or pay.
Yes, that is a stumbling block. But I recently learned that there's a caveat related to charity events.
This is old (maybe 2-3 weeks) news, but I didn't see it posted and I was asked not to post until now... Former Crew FO member Ryan Smith died a few weeks ago as a result of an at-home accident. I've heard there's supposed to be a memorial service of some sort at LDC sooner or later. Unfortunately, I don't know anything more than that.
Speaking of appearances like the awards night, I've seen the random autograph session postgame in 2022 and 2023. They're all ticketed events, or at least seem to be, judging by the posted signs. It wouldn't surprise me if those are paid appearances. At one time fairly recently, the players had to be paid for appearances above the two required. I can't remember the last time there were two all-team events in the same season, unless I deliberately miss one. The casino night seemed to always be incredibly popular. The first year we didn't have that was the year when the roundel was introduced. The pumpkin patch visit was a few years before casino night started. The mid-summer Wyandot Lake thing seemed to be popular. Even something simple like a tie-in with a local brewery would be awesome: "Come meet Cucho from 6-8pm at the brewery and be the first to try the newest Crew-themed beer. Be sure to visit the food truck as well." 1) Awards Night 2) Gear Sale 3) Circle of Honor Those are definitely missing. With that said, hopefully they learned their lesson from the absolute cluster that was the event this year at the conservatory. It shouldn't take STMs 30 minutes to enter an event that only goes for 120 minutes, partially because non-STMs were invited to a private event.
There *are* a lot more STM's than there were in the old days, though. Jackets STM meet and greets get like that too. If you get thru one station, you've done well.
Yeah, but...and I'm asking honestly here: 1) If the event is from 6-8, do the doors open at 6 and do people in the back of the line have to wait 30 minutes to enter, thus wasting valuable time? 2) Do season ticket holders get additional tickets for people who aren't season ticket holders? Those were my gripes. If those are fixed, say to have doors open 30 minutes before and then the players get to their stations at the time AND to limit it "1 seat = 1 ticket" then it would have been a lot smoother, IMO.
Perfect. Then his schedule is clear. All that's necessary now is to get permission from his wife who refused to let him consider coming back to Columbus because she wanted to live in LA and hobnob with the A listers. Sort of like an early version of Meghan Markle. Sadly for her, after he got canned because his team couldnt defend U15 girls, she ended up living in Asuncion where there were no Kardashians to be found. I bet Columbus is looking a lot better now. Too bad he wouldn't even be able to get an interview any more.
I don’t know if it’s “too bad”. I’m kinda glad his legacy won’t be tarnished if things were to go south. I don’t think Robert Warzycha will ever overcome the blight that was his coaching stent here.
The Veterans and Builders ballot is out for the US Soccer Hall and there are some Crew veterans on it. Frankie and Cunningham are the biggest Crew names. https://www.nationalsoccerhof.com/news/2023/09/2024-veteran-builder-semifinalists.html Personally, having seen them both, Bob Rigby was a lot better keeper than Shep Messing. Messing is famous for other reasons, of course....
Unfortunately, we do sort of have to remember him for both his on-field abilities (free kicks and a late save off the goal line in the 2002 USOC final) as well as his coaching.
2020 MLS Cup MVP Lucas Zelarayán gets the start for Armenia today against Latvia in a UEFA Euro qualifier. Kickoff at noon eastern.
Decided to check on Zelarayan's stats in the Saudi league: He's started all 9 matches in the Saudi Pro League and the 1 Al-Fateh has played in the King's Cup. Played 90 minutes 7 times, with the fewest minutes played being 68. 2 goals and 2 assists, for a team that's scored 22 goals this season. So, not exactly lighting things up quite yet.
I’m not an expert on Al-Fateh at all, but I do watch their highlights a couple days after the games are over because of Zelarayan and he’s been playing on the left side of a 5-4-1, like REALLY wide, it’s honestly less of a winger and more so of a wide midfielder because he cuts inside, dribbles, and takes his guys on all the time. He plays zero defense lol. He’s been their lone striker the past couple games as the team has moved from their formation into more of a 433, but he drops into the channels like he’s playing as a deep-lying forward. oh, he also takes their corners lol
That's f*cking terrible news. Ryan was a good dude. In my brief interactions with him, he made the world (at least my world) a better place.
I believe Artie Lange's dad fell off a ladder while trying to fix a roof. There's a reason why good roofers can be hard to find.
Former Crew keeper and part-time statue impersonator Eloy Room gave up four goals as Feyenoord routed Vitesse 4-0 yesterday. I wonder if after the goals he fell backwards onto his butt with that look of disbelief on his face.
