That godawful TW TV contract is probably the only real blemish on his record. It's great to see he's doing good.

Well, Cincy does have that kind of story -- in baseball.

And that's what we should be in US soccer. The FIRST. The MASSIVE.

For any of you with YouTube TV and the Sports Plus package to get BeIN and Fox Soccer Plus - Fox has picked up the rights to the Saudi Pro League and has televised/will be televising some Zelarayán games, for anyone trying to scratch that itch. He had a pretty solid outing Friday vs the Fighting Ronaldos, despite his team getting stomped.

    Here's something fun:

A few days ago, @00Kevin made a meme about how "Over the past month, Will Hesmer has as many MLS goals as Messi."

Well... Will saw it and posted it on his FB page.

Mark Dougherty replied that Will Hesmer has as many Tour De France wins as Lance Armstrong

The legend of Ricky Bobby...I mean Will Hesmer grows. He's truly a Massive champion.

BTW… gotta feel good for Katie Witham. She’s had a ringside seat for the Miami Circus.

Former Crew legend and 2020 MLS Cup champion Luis Diaz has been picked up by Colorado.

On a semi-related note, they need to fire their photoshop guy. WTF is up with his hand??????

Their photoshop guy might be AI. AI is notoriously bad with hands.

Fire the guy who is paid to look at it before it’s posted then. And if that is AI as well, hire me for minimum wage to just look at shit before it goes out lol.

Gotta remember that the Rapids are 5th or 6th on the list of teams Kroenke is invested in. There are probably months that go by that he completely forgets they exist so might as well have a full AI front office.

Rapids fan here - I come in peace.

Maybe that explains why RFO makes so many bad decisions...

Speaking of RFO decisons, so we signed Luis Diaz. Did we get much?

You got the guy who clocked the 2nd fasted speed in a match last year. The dude is lightning. Sadly, the other parts of his game are...not as good. He can absolutely crush the ball, where it goes after he hits it is another matter. He could not find a place in our team because his combination play and defensive abilities left a lot to be desired.

There are a lot of folks in this forum (myself included) that have been hoping for years that the team could find a way to utilize him, it just never happened.

@zman31 gave a good summary above. I would only add that the main thing he does is scare shit out of defenders. You absolutely cannot let him get even with you because in a footrace he'll just make you look stupid.

As a result, whatever his abilities, he keeps defenders back, making it tough to play the now popular high line. You just have to back.off and give him space.

Generally speaking, the most popular tactic used in dealing with him is simply to foul him. As my son, a four year college defender, said once when I complained about this cynical tactic, " what choice do you have? You sure aren't going to catch him"

I sincerely believe that the right coach could make a difference for the kid. I wish him, and you, all the best.

I can tell you what you didn't get.... defense.

For as fast as he is, you will often see Diaz a few steps behind his guy who just scored a goal against you.

He had a run of starts/appearances last year where it seemed like the guy marking him got a yellow card in every game. Some hapless defensive midfielder would haul him down after getting torched or the left back would preemptively give him a little kick to have a chance to stay with him. He has a real knack for getting a guy booked early on, which can really change how a team is able to defend for the rest of the game.

was checking out the Crew Academy staff on the crew’s website, and I’m not sure if I missed this posted on the board or not but Saad Abdul-Salaam is an assistant coach for the Crew u13/14 team, although they don’t have a click-able tile for him to read his bio, so it might be fairly new, but congrats to him!

He was a teammate of Wil Trapp at Gahanna Lincoln, so he's a local guy.

Our son's soccer team played against Wittenberg last week, and he texted me after the game and told me that Dwight Burgess was coaching Wittenberg's team.

If I had ever been aware of that in the past, I had completely forgotten about it. But it lead me to an interesting observation. One of the best soccer announcers in the USL, in my opinion, has been Brad Hauter, who used to coach Depauw's soccer team. Maybe there's a link between coaching DIII soccer and being a capable, knowledgeable, and iconic soccer announcer. I have certainly proposed less intelligent theories.

If the Crew had a meaningful ring of honor, you really could make the case that Dwight belongs.

But since a) it doesnt seem to actually exist and b) we cant even get Schelotto installed, that sort of thing will never happen.

The Crew cant be bothered honoring the history. Its a real shame. If anyone in the vast Nordecke bureau racy of self importance had any balls, that would be the first thing they pushed for at every opportunity. Alas, no such thing. It might upset the suits.

Didn't Mr. @LaMacchia say something a while back about how it would move this off-season and how the qualifications might even change?

If we change the qualifications and GBS stays coach for Paraguay through the Copa America, he could easily stop by for a ceremony.
