Ex Bundesliga coach Reinhold Fanz takes over Cuba job.

FRANKFURT, Germany: Reinhold Fanz is Cuba's new coach.
"It's an interesting job ... The goal is of course to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa," Fanz told the German soccer federation's Web site in an interview posted Thursday.
The German has coached Bundesliga clubs Hannover 96 and Eintracht Frankfurt.
If Cuba and the United States advance to the semifinals of the North, Central American and Caribbean region, they would play each other Sept. 6 in Cuba.

Given that he is free I guess he is a bargain but otherwise not a very impressive hire. He has coached some big teams but mostly when they were in lower divisions. He managed to get Hannover promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga from the 3rd division but then left for 1st Bundesliga Frankfurt where he only lasted 9 games. The rest of his coaching career has been in the 3rd and 4th divisions and not particularly successful. I would think he is coaching Cuba to make a name for himself. Maybe he will do well but he has certainly not shown himself to be one of the better German coaches so far.
