Ex-Army boss: Pentagon won't admit reality in Iraq

The former civilian head of the Army said Monday it is time for the Pentagon to admit that the military is in for a long occupation of Iraq that will require a major commitment of American troops.

Former Army secretary Thomas White said in an interview that senior Defense officials ''are unwilling to come to grips'' with the scale of the postwar U.S. obligation in Iraq. The Pentagon has about 150,000 troops in Iraq and recently announced that the Army's 3rd Infantry Division's stay there has been extended indefinitely.

this just adds to the evidence that civilian influence in the Pentagon, neoconservatives like Bill Krystol, Richard Pearle, Bill Bennet, Gingrich, Wolfowitz & Rummy, have very little respect for the uniformed officers' assessments & decide policy based on idealogy, rather than objective analysis.

this whole garbage about intelligence gaps on the wmd capability, wanting only 60k troops for ops iraqi freedom & discounting iraqi resistance is a product of their blind adherence to the neocon preemptive doctrine of actively seeking regime chg to promote democratization.

not particularly, but when a wing uses it's influence to impact foreign policy and deceive the American public and cautious factions w/i the Admin , it's a little absurd.

here's another link. Feith, neocon undersecretary, is in full retreat, denying the pentagons role in pressuring the dept of state and the CIA into backing dubious intel. They went as far as to create there own ofc of subversion 2 analyze their own intel, gathered separately from the CIA or service intelligence sources.

Also, on the same day, the renowned medical journal 'Duh' announced that cancer could perhaps be a chronic disease, and that there is a possibility that smoking cigarettes while pregnant may be harmful to your health.

    LOL :)

a famous cartographer anounced that the world was indead...round.

but seriously, the neocons preached that once we entered iraq, they'd through flowers at our feet & the INC, led by Ahmed Chalabi, would serve as an interim govt until national elections could be held. They figured maintaining civil order would be easy & that we'd be able to withdraw our forces very quickly. They scoffed at any notion it would take 100k troops or more to protect the peace & fired White & asked 4 the resignation of Shenseki too because they openly crtitcized the neocon perspective of things.

I can't tell you how confident I am that the Pentagon will lead a smooth transition to Iraqi civilian democratic leadership.

    Sincerely,
    Hamid Karzai

After reading about how Cheney and his chief of staff, Lewis Libby, pressured the CIA into making reviews favorable of the neocon agenda, i stumbled upon a little known but very powerful figure, Zalmay Khalilzad, who as a former Unicol & Rand advisor, had been advocating the preemptive policy back in the 80’s and was a cosigner of the letter snt 2 Clinton demanding the overthrow of Saddam.
Anyway, he is the US Special Envoy to West Asian & Afghani affairs. It is believed that he may be tied to the Mujahadeen Kahlg and a move to overthrow the Iranian in much the same fashion as he and Casey used the Mujahadeen of Arab nationals & local tribal warlords to oust the Soviets from Afghanistan.
