I think we can all agree that United would have easily dominated the midfield if a certain Scot wasn't suspended http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...on-Champions-League-with-Darren-Fletcher.html
In the second half they switched and it was Crynaldo. There were several hard fouls out of frustration on Puyol as a result. I think he even got booked (CR that is) for them.
And there was the match against Chelsea in the FA cup where Wenger didnt start Arsharvin and didn't bring him on til too late...
the fact remains that none of these armchair midfields ever have to step to the likes of Essien, Ballack and Lampard
I think he should've played O'Shea in the midfield and Rafael down the right, but I think he was afraid Rafael would be torched by Titi. He's probably right. I think Ferguson was in a "damned if I do..." scenario, but his biggest mistake was thinking that he could stop Barca the same way he stopped us, without Fletcher. As soon as it was apparant Fletcher wouldn't play, I think you have to revert to 4-2-3-1 with Berbatov leading the line, and Ronaldo able to attack the space between Toure and Sylvinho. Another great tactic was playing Messi through the center. Xavi, Messi, and Iniest created a triangle of possession, with Sergi right behind them to mop up. To be honest, it was nice to watch Ol' Rednose has generally been spot on with his team selection over the past two years, so I enjoyed him having to back track like a dispossessed fullback at half time. For once, an English team not from North London lacked steel in a big European game. Seeing them fail on a big stage really made me feel like we're so much closer to realizing our potential than we realize.
The problem is the two guys required to make 4-2-3-1 work are CQ (gone) and Schole (done). Rafael was never going to start against Henry You seen the boys defending?
ive said this for a very long while this season... Denilson is better than Anderson... he is not the athlete that Anderson is, but he is as good technically, and is a hell of a lot more intelligent... a lot better footballer... Song is too... United fans have convinced themselves that Anderson is excellent when he has a long way to go
I was very sympathetic... "so disappointing when your team just crumples after 10 minutes", "being completely outplayed is one thing, but showing no fight makes it really hard to take", "you must be very frustrated that you couldn't get through that makeshift defense" etc. I'm sure you get the picture.
tbf, Fletcher is a big game player... he would have made little difference yesterday (Hargraves would, imo) but I understand the want for Fletcher to play... he is the only one that would be willing to make a strong tackle exactly... im not saying Anderson is not going to justify his price tag... or that he isnt going to be good... but he is no where near that right now...
not at all, yet again u warp posts get off your high horse prince like your some kind of football authority true jitty, carlos q was the one who introduced the 4 2 3 1 to fergy
if he played in his natural position hed be much better anderson is shackled somewhat more than denilson is for us as he can play the middle role better
lol @ "high horse" ur a funny dude... like its been mentioned... ManU dont have the horses to run the midfield you were suggesting... you cant play Scholes there because he is done... it would have been Carrick and who at the '2'
the only chance united had was to attack equally, they pressured and were outplaying barca for the forst ten the goal shocked them and they never recovered imo they shouldve played ..............berba tevez......rooney.....ronaldo ...........carrick....anderson/o shea scholes i spose wouldnt have coped rooney helps midfield alot and tevez is superior to giggs and berba would offer them a central outlet which they lacked
the problem is that however you shuffle the deck, Carrick bottled it and sprayed rubbish passes completely bypassing midfield and losing possession 4-2-3-1 requires a general like Scholes.... Carrick just showed us he can't hack it, whatever the line up
