I love Punk!! Always have. What's your favorite band/album?

Green Day's Dookie is my favorite. Though the is still much love for the Ramones. But damn if Green Day didn't come around at the right time. They were a breath of fresh air when Dookie dropped (no pun intended :p)

Green Day is ok, but I like the old school stuff a lot better. Probably because I'm old.

The Clash, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, Circle Jerks, Minor Threat, X, The Stranglers, Alien Sex Fiend, Buzzcocks, Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Dead Milkmen, Flipper, etc etc

Fav. punk album over all is prob Rancid's ...and out come the wolves; but there's tons of good stuff out there that isn't poppy. I was suprised at how good the Transplants album was, I went into it expecting it to suck, but Tall Cans and D.R.E.A.M are both fun catchy songs.

    SLF - Alternative Ulster
Sex Pistols - God Save the Queen
    Clash - White Riot.

    Classic songs.

I was more of a post punk fan though. The Police & The Jam were the forst bands I saw and they both blew my mind

Never got to see The Jam, which is too bad because they're among my all time favorites. I still remember watching Stewart Copeland playing the drums for The Police. Could've sworn the dude had six arms.

And to Mike's list, I have to add The Minutemen.

I love The Jam. And way back when Urgh, A Music War came out, The Police were considered punk. Well, sort of, I guess. Roxanne has to be one of the classic post-punk/punk songs of all time.

Don't know why I didn't put them on there. They were great.

And again, another band I love yet somehow forgot. TV Party is probably one of my top ten all time favorite punk songs. I like the stuff he's putting out with the Rollins Band too.

I also somehow left off Iggy and The Stooges and The New York Dolls. Without them, who knows if punk would've ever existed.

Punk wise, I have 2 Clash albums and a Buzzcocks compilation. Postpunk wise I like Joy Division and Magazine.

Yes Rancid! I was into the Ramones and Clash when I was a kid, then I kinda strayed. But after such a gloomy time with Grunge Green Day was such a welcomed change as was Rancid.

And if you liked Rancid you gotta love Dance Hall Crashers.

If you think that Green Day was the greatest thing ever, do yourself a favor and go listen to "Never mind the Bollocks here's the Sex Pistols" and anything by the Clash (early stuff is true punk). After that Billy Joe and the gang will seem like the 2nd tier punk (1st tier pop-punk) band that they are.

    Re: Re: Everything Punk!!!!

Thanks for the tip... I have the entire Sex Pistols collection. And I never said that Green Day was the greatest thing ever. I just said that for me[/] they came along in an important time in my life. And believe it or not I have listened to the Clash. if you had read my previous post you would have known that.

I read your posts, but I was trying to point out that Green Day isn't punk, they are pop punk and if you really love punk those are some of the bands you should go and listen to. Green Day has even admited that they are not a true punk band. If you had said "I love Green Day, what about you?" instead of our favorite band/album, this wouldn't be a problem.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Everything Punk!!!!

Well thank you for enlightening me. I guess being a big Green Day fan, I would have never have known Billy Joe's own stance on Punk and his band, huh?
My appologies if my little thread didn't live up to you high standards.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Everything Punk!!!!

yeah, i held back my own digs myself - as hard as it was to keep the music snob in me down.

in fact, i think a lot of the titles mentioned on here are simply over-hyped, mediocre albums at best and there are a lot of other bands out there who are way more "punk" (though i hate using that word) then anything that's been mentioned.
it's just that they get bunched in with the hardcore crowd, so they're usually overlooked by those who think hardcore is just a hatebreed-esque jockfest.

    a few bands:
    gordon solie mother************ers
    DS-13
    scholastic death
    holding on
    shark attack
    carry on

in fact, a lot of the 'youth crew' or 'hardcore punk' acts sound a LOT more 'punk' then the majority of the modern-day acts that pass themselves off as the modern incarnation of the genre.

why the hell havent i started a hardcore thread yet?

My god, I love this song. And I love this band.

    Nothin' for us in Belfast
    The Pound's so old it's a pity
OK, there's the trident in Bangor
Then walk back to the city
We ain't got nothin' but they don't really care
They don't even know you know
    Just want our money
And we can take it or leave it
    What we need

    [Chorus] An Alternative Ulster
Grab it and change it it's yours
    Get an Alternative Ulster
Ignore the bores and their laws
    Get an Alternative Ulster
    Be an anti-security force
    Alter your native Ulster
    Alter you native land

Take a look where you're livin'
You got the Army on your street
And the RUC dog of repression
    Is barking at your feet
Is this the kind of place you wanna live?
Is this where you wanna be?
Is this the only life we're gonna have?
    What we need is

    [Chorus]

They say they've got control of you
But that's not true you know
They say they're a part of you
And that's a lie you know
They say you will never be
