Every so often, a YA connection to "Matlock" comes along: Lucius Cary in Ireland

    Came across this little snippet:

    Purl noted that her son, Lucius Cary, is a professional soccer player. “He just turned 21 and went pro” and is a member of Drogheda United in Ireland.

    "Purl" is of course jazz singer Linda Purl, who (I learned just now) appeared in the first season of Matlock, among many other credits.

    Cary is a midfielder:

    And an American-born '95:

    The name "Lucius Cary" seems to have some pretty interesting history:

    I wonder if he knows Roland Benedict.

    My sincere apologies. Last night I realized I bungled this thread title terrible. And while I have no idea whether this thread will actually go anywhere, better safe than sorry.

    The correct title for this thread is:

    Hush Hush, Keep it Down Now: Lucius Cary in Ireland

    There's really no disputing it.

    @Friedel'sAccent, @bungadiri, @dark knight -- please help a fella out.

    It looks like Cary started a League Cup match against the delightfully named Bluebell United back in March, but hasn't made a matchday squad since.

    His teammate at Drogheda, Joseph Jackson, is listed by Soccerway and Transfermarkt as an American, but I think he's actually a Canadian who played some college soccer and PDL in the US.

    I'm unaware as to Jackson's preference in footwear.

    I believe he prefers no footwear at all -- at least, that is, when he is...

    Hey all, I'm a longtime lurker at Big Soccer but I just signed up for the first time. (DMN, I follow you on Twitter.) Like everyone here, I'm fascinated by tracking American soccer prospects abroad. Anyway, as I was looking up Drogheda United's roster, I noticed they have a Chicago-born goalkeeper named Patrick Dunican, a '96, who played for Athlone Town last year, and is a former Ireland U-18 international:

    I'm not sure if Big Soccer has noticed Dunican before, but it appears that Lucius Cary is not the only American at Drogheda United. It appears Joe Jackson is Canadian, though.

    Thanks for the reply! It doesn't appear I can start a thread for him, as it seems I need to hit a sufficient number of replies and/or length of time as a member before gaining that privilege, but anyone else is welcome to start it.
