We get linked with McManaman every 10 minutes!

We couldn't afford to pay Bowyer's wages. Healy could be a chance. Dunno about the others.....

It's been in a lot of British newspapers today, but in the Daily Star it said

"EVERTON are set for a summer move for Guatemalan hotshot Carlos Ruiz.
Former American loan star Brian McBride gave a glowing recommendation to boss David Moyes about Ruiz, the American League's top scorer last season.
Ruiz, 23, scored 24 goals in 26 games for LA Galaxy and has an impressive 12 goals in 24 games for his national team.
McBride said "I hope that people start understanding that there is a possibility of bringing Americans and they can help."
Ruiz's contract is held by the financially troubled league, who would let him go for a cut price of £2 million."

((Everton are also leading the chase for Michael Brown of Sheffield United.))

Only David Dunne, and Koumas. Either would be better than what we've got at the moment!

ToffeeWeb referred to Dunn as a "highly-rated misfit". Any idea on whether he'd be able to get along with Moyes and his prospective teammates?

David Dunn is a good player, but I wouldn't be suprised if he had a big ego. Still be a good player for Everton to have though. Certainly rather have him on the field than Gravesen.

30 May - Hjalmar Thorarinsson! Top scorer in the Icelandic League... and only 16? Of course we're interested! [Tribal Football]

    Blues want McCann back
29 May - The Daily Mail report that, along with Aston Villa and Leeds United, Everton have lodged a £3m bid for Gavin McCann... whom we sold to Sunderland for £2.5m less than that four years ago!

    Moyes in chase for Nonda?
29 May - With Monaco needing to raise £18m in order to appeal against their enforced demotion to the French second division on financial grounds, £8m-rated Shabani Nonda is on the market and Everton have been linked along with Tottenham and Manchester City.

What can Brown do for you?
28 May - According to the usually reputable Press Association, Everton will offer £3.5m to Sheffield United for midfielder Michael Brown.

    Everton's Essien bid rebuffed
28 May - Nyarko plus £3M for Essien? Bastia say no [Planet Football]

And of course Michael Dawson is rumoured. Definitely a player I'd like to see at everton. Very young and lots of ability.

Now we are told we have 5 million pounds to spend then that means Dunn is gone. Koumas is a maybe and Li Tie will be gone. Why the hell do we have only 5 million to spend. We climb to 7th have the highest attendance in decades and this is all the Board can muster. Whats wrong with this picture.

Not really sure why the figure is so small. I was expecting somewhere in the family of $10 million. Dunn for $5 million would be good. Not sure how much Koumas would cost, but I don't understand why there is only 5 million either.

I think if I were Moyes I would try to secure the services of David Dunn of Blackburn and Michael Dawson of Nottingham Forest. In order to do this he'd probably have to wiggle a little extra money out of the board. Everton have already released a few players, and it looks like Li Tie is on his way out, so perhaps that will help bring in more cash. I'd also like to see a new forward come to Everton, but I don't know that it'll happen.

And some of the dead weight needs to be removed for Everton to be successful again this year. Its been said many times that the likes of Duncan Ferguson who are injured more often than not, (or suspended) are not worth the wages being paid. Therefore, they should be removed for the services of a younger, healthier player. I agree. Midfielder Jason Koumas would be a good player to add, despite the fact that he's not a forward.

Another boost for Everton is it looks like the young defender Lee Clark will be at Goodison next year instead of on loan.

Missing out on Europe really hurt Everton. They would have had a significantly larger amount to spend. Maybe this year a top 6 finish will occur.

Re: Re: Re: Everton transfer rumours

    * large transfer deficit during the last decade
    * failure to secure a media tie-in deal (a la chelsea/ man utd/ liverpool etc)
    * consistent poor league placing
    * lack of global support (and hence merchandising)
    * poor management

    take your pick.

btw, the £28m figure comes from official figures released from near the end of the 2001/2002 season. this was a slightly more healthy figure than the £29.5m posted a year previously.

conceivably, the true figure is circa the £25m mark now

Interesting. The poor management thing is no longer true with Moyes and the global support could be increased now with the Keijian deal and having Li Tie. League placing was good this year as well. If this trend continues, only good things will come for Everton.

After the 95/96 season, which I believe was Everton's best in the last ten years up until this year, were Everton fans as optomistic as they are now? Reading various Everton message boards, the fans definitely seem more hopeful of the team's chances then they had felt for a while.

well, i was thinking of poor management at the boardroom level, but i suppose you're right...team management hasn't been up to much either.

as for the china connection, i'm sure that was a deliberate ploy to tap into the far-eastern market. hell if real madrid can do it, so can we :p

i'd say the average fan definitely feels more optimistic now than in '96. that's the gut feeling i get from having experienced the atmosphere around the city both times. without harping on about him too much, i think the difference is david moyes. he gives me the confidence to believe he'll stick around to develop and build a team; taking everton back to where they belong. i dunno, that feeling was never there with joe royle's 96 team.

Encouraging, to say the least. Although I think this team has many areas it needs to address and hopefully Moyes will somehow be able to wiggle out more than 5 million Euros.

Dunn now looks to be out of the question because he's probably going to Birmingham City.

yeah, i don't know what we're going to do in the transfer-front. let's hope moysey can pull something out of the bag.

i'll be happy with 1 or 2 decent midfielders. the rest of the team can soldier on for the time being.

...assuming wright can get himself fit that is

Definitely scary that he'll miss pre-season. I'm not as comfortable having Paul Gerard in there as I am with Richard Wright. Everton cannot afford another goalie. Perhaps, the only way to get the funds needed for new players will be to get rid of some. How much is Dundee's (?) bid for Big Dunc?

why aren't we in the running for Leeds' Robinson? they've just accepted a £3.25m offer from Villa for him. i mean, he'd be a perfect cover/ replacement for Wright. As much as i like Wright, he scares me on every cross/ lofted ball that comes near him. Hopefully Gerard is on his way to Joe Royle at Ipswich anyway.

as for big dunc, i'm not sure, but i seem to think that story was dismissed as a rumour.

There's no doubt that Robinson is the better keeper. And I hadn't even though of that. Why would we not want to look into Robinson? The answer to that is probably because Richard Wright is a good keeper, not Robinson, but good. There are other areas that need to be addressed before goalkeeping IMHO.
