How does the % breakdown between Liverpool and Everton fans in Liverpool? Is it as much as 70-30 Liverpool? Just curious. I'd also be interested to know how the fans split in Manchester, Birmingham and other cities with mutliple teams.
It's more likely to be 70:30 in favour of Everton. Lots of people have said that there are more EFC fans in the city than LFC.
umm, well i was born and raised in liverpool, yet have spent the last 3-4 years in manchester, so i think i might be able to help. liverpool: in my experience, it's pretty much 50/50 between everton and liverpool. i really wouldn't wanna separate them. however, as SOON as you move away from the actual city and into the surrounding areas, the ratio swings in liverpool's favour. i'd guess that as you get to the southcoast for example, it's closer to 90/10 in favour of liverpool at least. manchester: in the city, manchester city have a lot more fans IMO...maybe 65/35, which given MCFC's lack of recent success is quite significant. again, tho, as you move away from manchester this ratio switches dramatically to the reds. practically every person i've ever met from the areas known as 'greater manchester', e.g. those lil towns 15-20 mins away from town, support MUFC. go down south and it's probably more like 95:5. sad really.
Its also worth mentioning that both Liverpool and Everton are both in the city centre. The same can not be said of the Manchester and Birmingham teams. Both Villa and United are in the suburbs. But remember Moyes' first words about Everton - "The Peoples Club"
When I lived in Bootle I would say that Everton had the slight edge, The following outside of the city is due to success of recent years with Liverpool and United. Even Arsenal who have had success of recent years do not have the same following as Liverpool and Man U, That will change as there trophy case gets larger. Everton supporters are basically transplanted scouses rather than new fans.
i'm from bootle too, btw, mate... whereabouts? i was born on Moss Lane, right on the border of Walton
Southport Rd. Near Stewart rd playing fields. My Back Yard was Bootle Stadium. I use to walk up stewart rd to Walton rd. To Goodison Pk. It was a Great place to live if you were an Evertonian.
I have said through the years that MUFC should change their name to reflect their current geographical reality: Salford FC.
birmingham - villa split Within Birmingham itself I'd say It's pretty even, maybe 45%-55% to Villa but once you move out into other parts of the West Midlands (Gloucstershire, Worcestershire etc) Villa are far more popular & a lot of the people arrested for the trouble at the derby match were from nowhere near Brum. It's difficult to be too acurate as ever since Birmingham City got promoted, loads of their fans seem to have popped out of the woodwork, claiming to be passionate fans (boll*cks!). West Brom also have a big fanbase all over the West Midlands but again, many of their fans seem to have found a 12 year old replica top in their cupboard & starting wearing it to the pub!
