Looks like other leagues are doing this. I think mostly to allow players with expiring contracts to stay with their teams for this tournament. https://www.efl.com/news/2025/may/14/summer-transfer-window-dates-/
I’ve enjoyed watching Inter Miami since Messi and Company arrived. But lately they just complain and whine about every call against them and every non-call they think should have been called. Yes, every team does that to an extent, but it’s every time lately with them.
Vancouver is missing a whopping 18 of 26 rostered players for tomorrow's game against Seattle. Nine are on international duty and nine are sick (a whole lot of players got sick on their trip to play against Cruz Azul midweek).
Damir still didn't get the start. He has 3 minutes of action in 2025 league play (on the bench ten times in all).
Seattle drew two straight reds early in the second half and Damir came in for the last fifteen playing 11 v 9. Got a late goal from the penalty spot even.
Good for him. I like Dami but did not understand the heartache when he left. He was a shell of his best seasons with RSL. He could have stayed and chose to take the money. Probably a smart move. I was more than happy he found a new home. Funny how fickle fans can be, myself included, when players move on and then effectively disappear. It can be such a short life span for being a fan favorite. Better cash in.
Does anyone really dislike Damir in Utah? I was sad he left, as that meant he likely wouldn’t stick with the team in any capacity. I could have been OK with a $500k salary for a couple of years to invest in him as a player-coach. I was mad, and still am, when we got rid of Nat Borchers though. He still had a few productive seasons with Portland, spent a while announcing for them, and is coaching kids (at least his kid’s team) in Portland instead of here.
Blame Salcedo for the Borchers thing. I think most of the fans that follow the team have the same sentiment towards Dami as you do.
Just a reminder, Damir made $440k last year. If he left for money reasons, how low was the offer from RSL?
From what I understand he was offered the next season and an opportunity to stay with the club in a coaching role but wanted to play for a few more seasons so went with the longer offer in Vancouver. I think it was the best move for both sides. He was done and RSL didn't have to pay him to prove it. They also got away from the King Dami thing as well. He's a great guy but it was just time to move on.
He's the kind of guy you want in your organization. I'd love to have him back, but I'm not sure he stays in N.A. after his career is done. Looks like he made the right call for this season. I wouldn't have thought that last year.
Vancouver has underperformed for almost its entire existence until this year. They’ve always been a team that should be better than their record, especially since Ryan Gauld has been there. It is very odd that everything has come together now that Gauld is injured and the team’s ownership is in flux.
I have to believe that's the difference between and good and great coach. I don't think Pablo is a bad coach, but I think we have enough evidence that he's not a great coach. If RSL isn't going to pay for high salaries and transfers, pay for a great coach and supporting staff. Sorry to get off topic.
I never meant to imply that. I do think he would figure out a way to put the players in their best position (not this odd 4-2-3-1 that's the only thing RSL plays) and they would have more points than they do. Would they be top 4, no, I don't think there's enough talent for that. I just think great coaches get more than the sum of the parts from the players. I don't think Pablo is doing that right now and he's only done it maybe in small spurts over his tenure here.
First off, I was replying to evilradar and not you. I know you are more measured than that. Finally, This September, Pablo will have been at the helm for four years. Since 2022, he’s been pushing this weird formation. We don’t have the personnel to make it work right now, although he oversaw IMO the absolute most exciting half-season this team has ever had. I would know. I’ve been invested for all 21 years. I think I’m with @goobx1 that the current team’s failures are more a managerial crisis poorly identifying and acquiring pieces to fit the coaching style. Part of this is also clearly a side effect of the protracted majority-stake sale that went from the end of last year all the way until the announcement made in mid-April right as the first window closed. Look, I’m not a Mastroeni fanboy, and I honestly wouldn’t be sad if the team decided to go a new direction for head coach. It is very interesting that they cleaned house with the coaching staff going into 2024, EXCEPT for Pablo. I’m more anxiously watching what the Millers do going forward rather than who is more or less to blame for the current state of affairs. It was very interesting to hear from the latest RANDOM FAN PODCAST with Jake Shaw that Dave Checketts is part of the Miller Sports Entertainment Group. Maybe he can do the halftime pep talks again? This team has been a mess for a decade. I’m not sold on Kreis nor our FO. I really hope the Millers can turn this around, and maybe their chance of securing a(n) MLB franchise is dependent on whether they can successfully run this club and show some ambition.
I’ll posit a different theory that isn’t said much at all: Rsl has punched above its weight under pablo (as well as other years) and is finally balancing out there were plenty of problematic things about the roster constriction for the last few years. That’s an evergreen mls statement. But rsl papered over cracks with some players over performing, some scheduling luck, and the proverbial bounces going their way. This year? None of that is coming together. I’ve said for the past few years that rsl is bound to miss the playoffs eventually. I believe we’re in for a finish closer to the bottom than the middle this year
