Last 3 penalties for England, all missed. Rashford, Sancho and Saka.

    All black.

Those 3 should avoid social media for a bit, I would have thought. You just know it, don’t you?

Three pretty terrible penalties from the England young guns.

The early goal was the worst thing for them, it justified Southgate turning the lineup into a full fledged back 5 while leaving Rice and Phillips completely exposed and outnumbered. I was yelling for Southgate to get Trippier out in the 40th minute when it was apparent the midfield was being over run.

What will it take for Grealish to not be thought of as a winger? Why was Saka, a former leftback and now right winger, being played as the #10 while Grealish was left isolated out wide? If I'm Jack I'm moving to play for Pep where I'd get to show the world I can boss a game as a CM.

What happened to Foden? Was the world's greatest 20 year old even seen after he got yanked in the 2nd (I think) match?

Overall not a bad effort from the players, just couldn't muster enough to get it done.
There is plenty of talent in the team that they should be taken seriously as contenders for WC22.

    foden was injured.

the rest of the lineup looked justified after 2 mins. Then England stopped attacking. Italy said thanks we will eventually score. And they did.

Well, a bit of a letdown from Eng after their goal…as has been said, they just stopped any kind of attack…

Worst part of the game? England’s PK’s (apart from the ‘arry’s)
Best part of the game? The reffing, which I thought was great

Yep, the ref did a solid job - wouldn't let anyone flop and whine.

(and now I"ll get bombarded with diatribes about how he missed a pen on Sterling...:))

Prolly the first game I’ve watch that Italy was marginally better.

Yep scored too early and Southgate took his foot off the gas. Pressure should have been kept on. Not the frantic speed.
Then just about all of what tips said.

Twellman May have been a decent player by mls standards but he is really annoying, that flat strident voice (did I mention that once or 30 times?)
Ian Darke sounded like a bumbling old professor at Hogwarts. Back in 1066 William scored a beauty putting Harold’s head in the top 90. After Harold missed a PK.

Felt like the first half was overall very well played by England. Second half was a conservative disaster. OT was a mixed bag. Never understood why a team like England, who are historically horrible at PKs, doesn't just go balls out for a win in OT. Also hate when players try to get all theatrical on their PK run up. Just worry about placing the ball. Ugh, at least that goon Jorginho didn't seal the win.

it's a disgrace that Sterling, Shaw and Stones stood and watched the three kids get thrown in - 2 of them stone-cold - against one of the best goalies in the world, under so much pressure. feel so sorry for Saka, he seems like a good kid.

Southgate seemed to think they could play the game like a CL away game - score early then soak up pressure for the rest of the game, look for a breakaway. that's what they tried to do and it worked well till the 2nd half and especially when Italy brought on fresh legs (which he didn't do until way too late - in the second extra time Sterling was as tired as I've ever seen a pro footballer).

soaking up that much pressure for 90+ minutes of regular time is close to impossible when playing one of the best NTs in the world (currently), and the breakaways simply didn't happen.
then when Italy equalized, England were worn out and had forgotten how to string passes together.

Yeah, I think Southgate got his tactics wrong yesterday. England got off to a great start but they handed the initiative back to Italy by sitting deep and allowing Italy to dictate the game.

Plus hearing how great Rice was, was interesting. He had some nice dribbling runs...only to give the ball away.

Once Henderson was fit during the knockout rounds he should have been starting.

They only real captain in that team.

But Southgate decided that Sir Harold of Flop had to be the Captain - a guy that literally does nothing to pick his teammates up or instill fight in them. And he was anonymous again in a big game.

this is ridiculous ..... and ppl say players have no right to complain about tiredness?!

England play a World Cup qualifier in Hungary on 2 September -- 52 days from now. Six days later, a World Cup qualifier in Poland,

Totally agree. Was watching this in Germany last night (up until almost 1am... on this side of the pond). I said to my kids that bringing two very young players that have probably never been in this type of pressure situation before was a recipe for disaster. Saka was brought on earlier, but all three probably never were in this much of a pressure-cooker situation, and it showed. Too bad really, because once Pickford made his second save it was totally winnable for England... ah well, them's the breaks.

Worse than Trump? Maybe. As bad as? Definitely.

In response to being asked about sections of the crowd booing the England players taking a knee, Boris Johnson he said he respected the right of those who booed to boo. And then condemned the racism that the 3 suffered in “the strongest possible terms”.

All that was missing was his fuc.king thoughts and prayers, then he would have had every angle covered.

Priti Patel. For those who don’t know her, think of a mix of Kayleigh McEnany, Marsha Blackburn and Dinesh D’Sousa. Only nastier. She’s the Home Secretary which has her in charge of law and order and immigration amongst other things. She’s also been found guilty of workplace bullying of civil servants. She’s on the record as supporting the reintroduction of capital punishment and very seriously suggested during the Brexit negotiations that if Britain could somehow cut off all food supplies to Ireland and spark a famine it would be a good thing (famine, Ireland, who was responsible last time? Rings a bell somewhere I think?).

As I say, a thoroughly nasty piece of work. And she’s just had her arse handed to her by Tyrone Mings.

As an out-there right winger who knows how to dog whistle to appeal to those constituencies you can’t overtly appeal to, she weighed in just before the start of the Euros. Said the taking of the knee was just “gesture politics”. (Not like the real, nasty stuff she practices).

But as the minister responsible for law and order and stuff, she had to have a view on the racism suffered by the 3. So, like Louis in Casablanca, she was shocked, shocked, shocked that there was racism going on in this casino. She was disgusted. Disgusted. Imagine that? Disgusted, she was.

Well in that man, well in.

Great run for Ingerlund, did far better than most predictions. Too bad a few morons had to tarnish it with that odious crap afterwards.

Unfortunately more than a few. Have read that the number of reported posts, tweets etc. is in 4 figures.

Best rocket scientist I read about: real estate agent. Twitter. Posting everyday crap about the game and other. Game ends. 15 minutes of racist diatribes against the 3 players. Then back to everyday crap. Now claims his account was hacked for the 15 minutes and he knew nothing about it until his job suspended him!

Definitely sounds like he’s competent enough to file election lawsuits in Michigan and Arizona.

Yes it does, there’s no bothsidering this one.

And what’s interesting is that I thought it would take a serious amount of clumsiness, menace and mendacity for any government to get to Charlottesville, “there’re good people on both sides”, Johnson and Patel, with their siding with those who boo the knee takers, have essentially done that.

It is difficult to overstate how badly they’ve underestimated the reasons for and the power in taking the knee. Wrong side of history is a phrase that comes to mind.

BoJo suddenly gets religion. laughable. I'll believe this happens when I see it ....

    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-57837003
Boris Johnson has promised to ban people guilty of sending racist abuse to footballers from attending matches.

The prime minister said he would ensure the "football banning order regime is changed" to crack down on racism.

Labour has been calling for the law to be changed after England players were subject to abuse.

But Sir Keir Starmer said the PM's promise to take action "rings hollow" after his previous refusal to condemn fans who booed players taking the knee.
