Hi, I'm doing a research project on sports in ~1940 Germany and was wondering if anyone knows of a good website where I can find some good info about soccer. I know how many european countries have their own style of play and want to know the German style of soccer. Please help if you can.
    Thanks.

Well I dont know any websites on the topic, but the German style of play is without a doubt on the defensive side. They play for a goal, and then "bunker down" in the back and just take a barrage of shots from the opposing side. As they are one of the best sides in the world, and they made it to the last WC Final, this style works for them.

It only happened then. Usually Germany plays different styles. In 1970's they played "Total Football" with Holland and before I don't know if they had a certain style, I think they played like everytone else in europe. a 2-3-5 system where the front five would be three behind two in front. That was how it was done long ago...

The Germans co-engineered total football? Are you serious or deliberately insulting? That was Holland's creation, and Holland's creation alone.

Germany's style is largely characterised by luck, btw.

Rinus Michels invented total football. I believe one would find him to be for the Netherlands.

well, here clearly speaks the typical dutch envy, or are you just deliberately insulting? :) true, i never heard 'total football' credited to the germans, but they certainly had great players in the 70's, as had the dutch. but being the most successful european nation can't be just down to luck..
characterising german football as defence orientated is wrong too. i would say they simply manage particularly well to concentrate on their strengths. if defence is the strongest part of the team (as in the last world cup), tactics will be centred around that, if it's the midfield and attack (as in the 1990 wc win), it's more centred around that.
