No not really. International competition, hell all competition, is all geared for the World Cup finals. Every competition in the world is secondary to that of the 4 year finale. i understand national pride. If given the opportunity I'd rather represent the US more so than England even though England have a (slightly) better track record. However, El Salvador haven't qualified for the cup since '82. I'd say that Correa should strongly consider the fact that he may never have the opportunity to display his talent on the world stage.
You should play for the country you love, just because you have the oppurtunity to play for a better national team doesn't mean you should play for them. When picking national team allegiance it should be about wanting to represent the country you love, not who is better.
The only what the kid says is that at this moment he's more interested in his club career and that he has never been contacted by ES. The rest is just just wishful interpretation. Exactly like with Llegett, people trying to hear what they want to hear.
If he actually chooses to play for El Sal over the US, I'd let him go with ease. He loves a country that much. more power to him. EDIT: My best translation says that he is trialing with Juve, Marseille, etc... Not signing a contract of any kind. He expressed an interest in playing with Portland in 2011.
he said on facebook about a week ago that he was with Palermo. couldnt understand him though, he was speaking teenage jibberish. Made Nguyen's twitter msgs seem readable
It looks like the 3 Italian clubs are still interested in Corea. (Unless they are just rehashing news from the winter transfer period). http://www.calciomercato.com/mercato/fiorentina-provino-per-dustin-corea
Was checking out El Sal forum. They say he will be playing for El Sal's U21 team this July against some Carribean national U21 teams.
I'm a little tired of these dual nationals playing for multiple countries at the same time.........going back and forth from one nation's camp/friendlies to the other. It's one thing if you're with one group, and make a one-time change. Dustin............pick one..........and stick to that for a 2-year cycle. If you don't like it, go to the other.
Interview with Dustin Corea at selectatalent.com (it is in Spanish) You can listen to the full 16 minute interview here
good news, Brugge is an excellent team and a great club to start your career at. edit- title change in order as well?
10 dollars says a new title references this: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTJj4wbmAhk"]YouTube - Austin Powers Doctor Evil Talks About Himself[/ame]
In case you missed it.. Corea and El Salvador could be in serious trouble CONTROVERSY HITS FORMER US YOUTH PLAYER
The ES federation is run by a bunch of buffoons if their "defense" is to believed. It's impossible for them not to know. Their media sure did. Everyone did. ES, like you said, may have really shot themselves in the foot big time. A costly, stupid, and quite honestly idiotic move on their point. My question is what does this mean for Dustin? Obviously he remains a US player. But is he permanently ineligible for ES? Are the bridges with the US coaching staff too burned for repair?
The last paragraph says it is a club called Marte. This was the first I had heard of Corea having signed with a Salvadoran club. Edit: Here is their team page. He is listed, but it is apparently cut and pasted directly from Wikipedia. Very professional
This whole saga keeps getting stranger. So he signed with this team in El Salvador only to be loaned to Blokhus. When Blokhus confirms it then I'll believe it.
