Am I doing this right? This should be a new thread? Every time I have made a new thread Bill Archer has chewed me out. I am already going to probably get stabbed by his son Jack Sticker this weekend as Sunderland is playing Rangers. I have the misfortune of watching this with him. Send a search party for my body if I don't post at all next week. Anyway here are my predictions English Premier: I think this year Man United is going to win it. If they can keep Ronaldo. Spain LaLiga: Real Madrid will have the league wrapped up before the world cup break. German Bundesliga: This is Dortmund's year to break the streak. Italy Serie A: Juventus comes back this year and wins it by a good margin. Dutch: Ajax France: Marsellie Portugul: Benifica English Championship: Sunderland Scotland: Rangers
The most important thing happening in Europe this season is this: Scottish club Partick Thistle have a kit next season inspired by their iconic mascot Kingsley 😬☀️ pic.twitter.com/oUlcD9qlYX— B/R Football (@brfootball) July 7, 2022 I must have it.
That's how they get ya. You fantasize about the size of the win and not the extremely long odds. Sports betting is crazy enough.
Getting Charlie Brown vibes off of this- Up the Cherries! 🍒⚡️ With what has to be an early contender for Premier League shirt of the season, @umbro drop the striking @afcbournemouth 22/23 home shirt, welcoming the Cherries back to England’s top tier with a bang.See more: https://t.co/7YcfqbrTBV pic.twitter.com/H6tDI3vm6C— SoccerBible (@SoccerBible) July 6, 2022
So the Rangers Sunderland game was canceled due to power outages at halftime. Jacksticker has some kind of long COVID personality-altering stuff going on. He was not even mad. When Sunderland went up 1-0 I did not even feel in danger. Does anyone else know someone who got COVID and whose personality became really watered down? When Ranges lost the Europa League Final Jack's exact words were "I am just glad I got to see them in a final again." He is not as much fun as he use to be.
Despite "credible rumors" that Jose Mourinho was hopping ship to Newcastle this summer, the vibes at A.S. Roma are immaculate right now. Still basking in the glow of a European trophy. Record season ticket sales. Lorenzo Pellegrini coming off a breakout season. Tammy Abraham loving life in the Capital. Lazio in crisis. And now Paulo Dybala, joining on a free. Roma’s biggest mercato addition in recent memory. A player even 6 months ago nobody would imagine would be interested in the Roma project. And seemingly holding onto Zaniolo despite Juve's interest? Come on. We are in the midst of Roma’s most positive period in over a 30 years, and it’s only getting better. It’s Mourinho Magic, baby.
Peter Drury will be the lead play by play for English matches in the USA. Arlo White has gone to Saudi golf. I did like Arlo but I think this is an upgrade.
Arlo is still the TV PBP guy for the Chicago Fire, though. MLS is a more entertaining league than that English thing anyway.
Not gonna lie his call of A recent match versus Columbus - especially from about the 80th minute on - was particularly savory.
Can you finally convince them to buy Guedes then? I’m watching Valencia’s friendly v Dortmund right now and just 10 minutes in Guedes is already driving me crazy lol. I imagine than Dybala fills that spot in the squad though
I haven't followed Premier League soccer for way more than a decade. If I had to, I'd say I was an Arsenal fan. But, I moved away from watching a lot of those matches as MLS grew and the TV contract changed, I just wasn't that interested in the games. My only interest was in seeing USMNT players and for a while there not many US guys were playing in that league so I gravitated to Bundelisga for extra soccer viewing outside of MLS. I'd say I have a soft spot for Leeds though. That 2000-01 team was a lot of fun to watch. Old Friend and long lost BS poster Walt Wheeler and i spent quite a few early Saturday mornings at Fado over beers and breakfast with him decked out in the whites of Leeds. And now, with Jesse Marsch at their head, Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson on their roster, I have a reason to tune in to see how Leeds are doing. My main draw is still seeing USMNT guys. I'll be watching games based on that as the run up to the world cup this time around has very few friendlies for the actual team. I want to see how our guys are shaping up for the tournament. It's nice to have a spot where I can see 2 at once. I'm not ready to become a Leeds fan, but I'll certainly be following them more closely than any other Euro team this season, especially for the next 4 months.
Valencia has Musah. Just sayin’ Actually the first Valencia preseason game was today (watching now). Interestingly, Gennaro Gattuso is using a 4-3-3 and Musah is playing as a CM.
Of course Valencia beats Dortmund 3-1 with 2 goals from Guedes haha. Dortmund title challenge narrative killed 60 minutes into preseason..
Oh, I'm going to be watching Valencia, Dortmund, Juventus, etc. Having 2 with Leeds nice (I'm especially high on Aaronson and really keen to see how he deals with the significant step up in competition).
Yes, under several usernames. If he came back with a new one though and was better behaved, I doubt anyone would be checking on it.
Yeah, I think the Guedes trail hit a dead end for Roma. And honestly, as much as I like Guedes, getting Dybala on a monumentally better addition for the club. I'm over the moon. There was a report out of Portugal today that Benfica was looking to bring him back. But 40 million was too rich for Roma. There is zero chance Benfica could afford him. But having watched two Benfica matches this preseason, I'm not sure he'd even start. Roger Schmidt has the Algarve Cup Champions humming!!!
This is a good point. He came back as Indy83 for awhile and was well behaved and flew under the radar until…he wasn’t well behaved. Not speaking for @hardhead or the Supermods (super stupidfaces?), but if he behaves himself, he might again fly under the radar. That’s a big “if,” though.
