What should FIFA do about the future of the World Club Championship??? I know that it would be great tourn. but considering players are playing more and not to mention time scheduleing...maybe this tourn doesn't look so good. Please Shout Out and give your opinions!

I can understand why the European teams really have no desire to play in this competition - it's too long and they're beat after all their domestic seasons, Europe, domestic cups, national team duties, etc. They need a break and this tournament doesn't afford them one.

My suggestion is this - take the Toyota Super Cup in Tokyo one step further. The top teams from CONCACAF, CAF, AFC and Oceania DO have the time to play in a small tournament - top two teams advance.

Then in Tokyo, the South American Champs play against one of the winners, the European Champs play against the other. For example:

    Real Madrid vs LA Galaxy
    Shimizu S-Pulse vs River Plate

Everyone would expect Europe and SA to win, so there's really only one extra game for them, or none at all. The previous year's Super Cup Winner should then get to play whoever is second in the tournament between Asia, Africa, Oceana and North America.

No matter what though, South America and Europe get bye's into that final round, even if the Galaxy takes to whole thing by beating River in the Final. You can't just kill all traditions and Europe vs South America is always going to be arguably the best match.

But if they scrap all of it altogether, I'll be alright, as long as the Galaxy wins MLS Cup again this year...

The club competition hierarchy in Germany is Championship, Champions League, UEFA Cup, National Cup. All other competitions are not worth to be mentioned, the regular fan does not care about them. The Toyota Cup or the World Club Championship are not even covered on TV unless a German team is taking part as the ratings for a D3 game would be higher. Because of that these competitions are also extremely uninteresting for the clubs.

I think this is the ranking of priority in every other European country too. Club football will always be more popular as a domestic competition.

Duh, that's a quality post...

You miss the whole point. The point is eagerness of winning your own league against teams you have relations to and play every year. It is about respecting the domestic championship which is the main reason to the success of this sport. Intercontinental football can't offer that.

If invented it will only be a sideshow. It can never be a big tournament with many teams anyway because of the already packed match schedule. That alone puts the WCC in third behind the domestic league and the Champions League. A world championship that will only get third priority (at best) isn't even worth establishing.

God is that a boring, sniffy, whiny load of old cack. Face it kids, we're not scared of you, we're not worried about what you think about us and we don't lie awake at night worrying whether you might be in the ascendancy and, if so, what impact that could have on our football here in Europe.

No - we just don't give a shit. We don't care. We find you and your endless inderiority complex-driven Mickey Mouse tournaments boring. Sorry - truly, I'm sorry, because that must suck but there you are.

    We don't care.

Enjoy the World Club Championship, or whatever. Really - hope you have fun. Send us a post card.

he's got you there Matt hasn't he? If only Liverpool had won the title as many times as Man Utd. When someone demonstrates football wisdom like that then you know just how seriously his point of view has to be taken.

I agree with FutboLFeva, I think that European clubs are scared of being beaten by African and North American clubs. Clubs that they say are inferior to them. Already clubs like Al-Ahly in Egypt and Brazilian clubs beat them and the World Club Championship is another opportunity to prove that European clubs are not the best.
If European clubs are not afraid of being beaten then play in the tournament and win the cash of you are so much better.

I know that the rest of the world is eager to have the chance to prove themselves against the European clubs, but the sad fact is that for European clubs a world club championship just isn't high on their priorities. There is no demand for it. The domestic championships and european competitions are considered far more important, and obviously are far more financially lucrative. Stick an obscenely huge amount of prize money in a world club championship and things might change.

The only way it'd ever happen is if the Champions League was scrapped in favour of a season long world championship that'd contain the same amount of matches, and that just wont happen.

I went to my first game at Stamford bridge in 1969 when i was 5 years old.Throughout all those long years since i have yet to hear Chelsea-or for that matter anybody else from Europe, never mind England-say that non European countries are inferior to them at club football.Perhaps you have been around longer or have more in-dept knowledge than myself of what clubs think?

The single most importent club competition to European clubs at the present moment in time is the champions league.End of.
The proposed tourney is just a drain of resources with little return.
Clubs have been up in arms for the past few years about the amount of games their top players are involved in and most certainly don't want to add to it with this.

The whole thing smacks of a power struggle between Blatter and Johansen and given their rather less than pleasant dealings with each other in the past i wouldn't be surprised ifthis was the sole reason behind this silly attempt to revive the tourney.

Because the Champions League is of the UEFA and not the terrible FIFA.

I don't think that is totally true anymore.

Barcelona, their players and coach openly said they would rather win the Champions League than La Liga, especially the dutch players. I saw Kluivert say it too.

Man Utd also if they could only choose one right now would rather win the Champions League as they have won the league a lot already.

Arsenal have NEVER won the Champins League, so I'm pretty sure they want it a bit more than the league.

AC Milan even rested players in a crucial game this season against Inter or Juventus for their important Champions League game.

The Champions League is definitely first now for the top teams, then League. I'd say it's split 55%/45%

Depends on the team, I know in England I'd say Liverpool fans would rather the league, as would Newcastle fans I'd say.
