    Frankly the rehabilitation of the latter has been bizarre, with even many progressives suddenly expressing admiration for the literal Mussolini fangirl.

    This is a strange counter. The electoral college is the manner in which every president is elected. If the argument is that it's somewhat anti-democratic in nature, then yes. But both sides seem okay with that reality. At least I haven't heard any serious talk from the Dems about abolishing it.

    The electoral college, in how it’s currently structured, is most certainly not the manner in which every president is, or has been, elected. The constitution provides virtually no guidelines on how states must choose electors and doesn’t actually include the term “Electoral College.”
