Have read any of this. Didn’t watch had a shitty day at work and meeting until literally 60 seconds ago. Was fully expecting to pull the score and complete the shit day. Oh my days.
This is always nice to do. Tottenham Hotspur major honours: English League titles (2), 1950-51, 1960-61; FA Cup winners (8), 1901, 1921, 1961, 1962, 1967, 1981, 1982, 1991; League Cup winners (4), 1971, 1973, 1999, 2008; Uefa Cup/Europa League winners (3), 1972, 1984, 2025; Cup-Winners Cup (1), 1963.
From what I've seen, the goal has been credited to Johnson, although for the life of me, I don't think he got the last touch. But he made the run that caused the chaos in their box and it was a fantastic cross from Sarr. The rest of the game, we just sat back and soaked up pressure, which, ironically, was the way Ange said he would never, EVER play. So he is either the biggest fraud known to man or had his come-to-Jesus (or come-to-Daniel) moment before the second leg of the Frankfurt tie. In any event, it worked, we won a cup and are CL next season. If we can do all that AND get rid of him for next season, I'll take it.
I'm wrecked. Ears ringing still. Managed to watch the match at a fan event and share it with one of my sons, a beautiful moment. What an event. Momentous. So pleased for Sonny, Ben Davies and anyone other long serving player. Ange can bore off with his head held high. Cup winner and worst season in living memory. Idgaf. Football, eh? Bloody hell.
I watched with my son as well, he nearly destroyed the TV room when the goal went in, but it was definitely worth the potential carnage.
Interesting reading below. We are not the lowest ranked team to compete in a European final, but I believe we are now the lowest ranked to have won one. We are definitely a club of historic firsts: First (and only) non-league club to win the FA Cup. First English club to win a European trophy. First club to do the league and cup double in the 20th century. First English club to win the Uefa Cup. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...finals-based-on-league-position-the-knowledge
The way we scored reminds me a bit of the last time we won a trophy, when the ball was kicked into Jonathan Woodgate's face and went into the goal. "Scrappy," but it'll do. For me the biggest surprise was Pape Sarr. He hasn't been playing so well lately and I really didn't think he would do well as the creative midfielder (number 10 or whatever). But he had a great game and, of course, set up the goal. To make an analogy to American football, when you are down to your 4th string quarterback it's time to rely on the defense and hope for the best.
Agreed, but I thought we outplayed Chelsea for most of that final, and then after Woodie scored, we went 10 behind the ball and held on, with Paul Robinson, like Vicario, making a key save late on. Hopefully, Levy will have learned the lessons of 2008 and not persist with the same manager.
