there's all kinds of chaos at the Copa Final - thousands of fans not able to get into the stadium 2 hours after games were to be opened, while others have stormed their way in. reminiscent of Paris .... From start to finish, it's clear CONMEBOL didn't do what they needed to do to work with the folks on the ground at venues, local PDs, etc. when planning this Copa América. https://t.co/JBoxrkTjpD— Jon Arnold (@ArnoldcommaJon) July 14, 2024
Delayed for a third ********ing time......1:50am now and I have no idea what I'm doing up when I have to be up in 6 hours for work.
Haha - Southgate: "England had 1 less day to prepare - and thats why we gave up the back post right sided goals" more or less
England created less xG at Euro 2024 (6.43) than Croatia (7.10). Croatia went out at the Group Stage. Also, Despite playing the most minutes (690), England end the tournament with: • 4th-most shots on target (25) • 6th-most big chances (13) • 7th-most shots attempted (76) • 10th-most xG accumulated (6.17)
tough loss for Colombia, that. they played their hearts out but suffered from lack of composure in the final third. wish I could like Argentina but Mac aside I can't stand a single one of them.
I watched precisely none of the Copa, but my impression was that all of it was a poor, mean-spirited tournament where football struggled to break out.
Starting from the organization of the entire tournament straight on down. Very little quality on display.
Not that it was any big loss, and that all of the participants and their supporters deserved more/better, but the single minute of added time at the end of the first half was shambolic - no way it should have been less than ten. But factoring in the shitshow that caused the delay, coupled with the ridiculous half time extension to allow for the Shakira performance, I'm sure the ref was instructed to get it over with. The football purist in me hated that, but again, I don't think the added time we missed would have served up anything close to satisfying football anyway. Couldn't stay awake for the second half...
I think we’ve all seen these pictures before. I think UEFA and the French police must have helped with the press release. What a shit show.
The South American sides seem to have an intense hatred of each other , not just one or two but all of them. The games are played with a vitriol reserved for some of the old time British football derbies. However I watched all of Canada's matches and they were thoroughly entertaining. Mostly good football too. The reffing is another story tho.
This was wild from last night... I’ve no words. And yet this game is about to kick off. #CopaAmerica pic.twitter.com/112lUIruqG— herculez gomez (@herculezg) July 15, 2024
dunno if it's hatred - to me as soon as they KO they just immediately all drop to the lowest-level denominator of snide nasty shithouse fouling. and go from there at the end of games and so on they do seem to shake hands and get along OK (from what I noticed anyhow).
It's weird, I think this is the 1st time in my life that I have football fatigue. Not sure if it was the emotional rollercoaster of Liverpool this season followed (almost immediately) by that England playing in those Euros, with a healthy dose of the Copa shit show here in the US. Don't get me wrong, I'm very excited to see how this Liverpool team slots into the grand scheme of things .
I planned to watch very little of Euro and less of Copa, but got sucked into it. our first preseason game is Friday next week.
