Comparing Simons and Sneijder is laughable. Sneijder was playing CL football for Ajax at the age of 18 and his overall game was so much better than Simons. Simons's passing is mediocre and he's really not all that strong compared to Sneijder. He is definitely not the future of Dutch football as there is no single player who can carry an NT on his shoulders. Even if you go back and look at the great Cruyff team of 1974, there were a lot of outstanding supporting players!!

Those three players are not very good.

Simons ball handling is subpar compared to any of the MFs on the Spain team. He would not even be called up

Right now Maatsen is a terrible defender. At Dortmund, he always need help from either Schlotterbach or the winer on his side. When he was isolated, problems happened.

I follow the 'Oranje' during international tourneys and enjoy reading these threads, but have never posted before this (and likely won't in the future as I know so little).

And this article was informative to me for no other reason than it helped me remember the name of Wilson00's avatar...it was about too drive me nuts! :)

    Go Oranje!

You're probably right, but I have my orange-coloured glasses on and they prevent me from thinking objectively :D

I predict Oranje will break loose and beat Austria 3-0

The objective is to advance so a draw is also acceptable. The main thing for me is if the team can play well, organized, better defensive and make adjustments/change style of play if needed.
France did a good job to pack the middle that I did not see much attack or through ball in the middle. Koeman seems not very good at making adjustment in the last game. France had too much possession and losing the midfield battle to France would do that. Playing like this vs stronger team like Portugal, Spain or Germany will be suicidal. Hope for a better performance vs Austria.

Boy, does Taylor and his VAR buddy get the whip in England/UK:

Seriously @FA_PGMOL why are our refs the worst in the World, well, worst in Europe at least? Spent ages to get to the wrong decision, just like week in week out in the Premier League #NEDFRA #VAR

#Netherlands put the ball in the net! But VAR & English Referee. #Anthony_Taylor & #Simons, the linesman rules it offside!

I suppose this is where we miss Frenkie and Koopmeiners the most. However, it doesn't help that Depay can't hold possession to save his life making it impossible to do anything through the middle. Zirkzee pls.

I think if Depay completely sucks first 45 minutes against Austria Zirkzee/Malen/Brobbey will get their chance in the 2nd half.

Weghorst should be saved for the last 15 minutes IMO. Thats his strength

Agreed! Weghorst is the consummate pinch-hitter. I hope we keep using him for that role. I think Zirkzee offers more as a starter. He's strong, pretty fast for his stature, creative, skillful, great at link-up plays, is tall enough to be an aerial threat, and is a good finisher. Weghorst is a great finisher, especially under pressure, ideal for a late sub. I'm just an armchair coach though. For all I know Zirkzee can get the start and fold under pressure. Lol.

Although it will be difficult match vs Austria, Koeman should prepare the team to win to get 1st place as much as possible. The top bracket consists of Winner of group A, B and F will be tough with Germany, Spain and Portugal. The bottom bracket will have winner of group C, D and E (likely England and any of Belgium, Romania, Slovakia and Ukraine). I hope NT can win group D.

Christ. We really have nothing going for us do we? I guess it'll be good old Depay again. SMH. Not that Koeman would have started Zirkzee anyway... Let's hope that all of the criticisms have woken Depay up. We need him to have only outliers from this point on.

Truly unbelievable the amount of injuries that have occurred for Dutch players in the last 2 years.
Depay better be moving as if his body is on fire.
Putrid display by him the other night.

That never gets old. I especially love the large busts of Oranje legends (the only one I could make out was Gullit).

Is there a side that finds more luck than the Italians? And now they get Switzerland in the knockout and then probably England. Gonna cruise into the semis (probably at least one of the times on pk’s), yet they’ve been junk.

Wow, heartbreaking for Croatia. Going home on the last kick of the match after defending so bravely against Italy.

Oranje will qualify to the knockout stage regardless of result tomorrow!

Shattered into pieces. Just wanna say thougj about the build up leading to zaccagni's Equalizer. How Calafiori playing CB broke through the middle channel. That is something that is what's missing in NT compared to lateral and back pass syndrome.even with the midfielders
