For today's games I had my prediction as a narrow win for Denmark and a more comprehensive England victory Slovenia 0 Denmark 1 Serbia 0 England 3 Feeling less confident than I was on June 1st when I submitted my final picks. How does everyone else feel?
One of the easier groups to predict. Not sure about 6-2 England over Serbia, but... 1. England 2. Denmark 3. Serbia 4. Slovenia
I do not want to bash England cause I am sure their own self-deprecating fans and media are doing a good job of that. I will say though that they just looked a bit scared or shall I say overwhelmed in the second half. They are going to have to do a lot of soul searching and tidying things up if they want to play at the level Germany and Spain or even Italy. BUT luckily for them they have time to figure things out and grow.
I actually predicted that England - Serbia would be a high scoring game say 4-2 England win but I think Serbia tactically did well to keep England to just 5 shots. Of course they themselves didn't look threatening going forward but it's a very good result. With Denmark - Slovenia tying and England probably winning their remaining two games, Serbia is in a good position to advance if we play as well from here on out.
The 6-2 I got all wrong. I thought it would be a much more attack mind game considering both teams strength’s and weaknesses. I guess both teams chose to play more cautiously instead. I must admit, the chemistry on both teams really sucked. Do either England or Serbia know how to make crosses? They’re not spotting anyone, and just crossing balls into the box hoping someone will get there. Extremely frustrating. Both teams wasted so many chances.
Is Slovenia the new Iceland? I saw many similarities. Slovenia don’t have that much talent or quality, but they play very smart and physical and try to take full advantage of opportunities and get the ball as close to goal as possible with long free kicks and long throw ins.
I felt that the balance of the side Southgate was wrong, with Trippier a makeshift LB and Foden having a tendency to cut inside, meaning that there was little coming down our left handside in an attacking sense. We have the players to remedy that, hopefully Southgate puts them to use.
Hoping for two great games today. Slovenia-Serbia both have huge amounts to gain from a win, so am expecting a good watch.
Disappointing that Slovenia conceded a goal in the last minute. Their chances of going through are contingent on winning against England, which probably won't happen.
I'm not sure on that. That was perhaps the second worst performance I've seen from England in a tournament.
Yeah, I was wondering, just before Serbia scored, if Slovenia ever won a game at a major int'l tournament? Would have been quite historic either way. Since Southgate likes to drive his Ferrari at 20mph maybe England will just play for a draw, which would be enough for Slovenia.
Would not be shocked at all of England loses to Slovenia. One team has all the confidence in the world. The other team look to has no confidence whatsoever.
This Slovakia vs Ukraine game reminds me a lot of the one back in Euro 2016 qualification in Kiev. Both games, Slovakia scored in 17 min. Both games Ukraine seem to be controlling better after the goal. In this game, is Ukraine going to have a controversially disallowed goal at the last minute? I have a feeling!
I don't think we'll lose, but from the rumoured team news, it doesn't sound like Southgate even seems aware of our lack of balance on the left.
Wouldn't be surprised with a draw in the Denmark v Serbia game. Neither has really had much to praise from their strikers so far, Serbia obviously need to push for win so hopefully some impetus from them.
Not Surprised at all that England is looking like England of old. All the talk heading into this tournament by fans and pundits and journalists was "We have the best goals scorers from England, Spain, Germany so we should score lots of goals in the Euros!" It does not work that way folks. You have to play together as a team and you have to get the tactics right. Also have to have the right attitude and some confidence.
Interestingly, or perhaps laughably, England are still the bookmakers' favorites to win the Euros At +400 I think their odds actually lowered since the start if the tournament. Spain second, followed by Germany, France and Portugal. Then there is a big gap.
Their side of the bracket is the only thing really keeping England that high of favorites. Although they could get knocked out by Netherlands as soon as the round of 16 for all I know. I don't know which team will show up.
Either Landon Donavan or Stu Holden said Harry Kane is the best player in the Premier League & one of the best players if not THE best player in English history. Is that true??
