On the UEFA tournaments side months ago I wrote that Austria were my darkhorse. Sticking by that.

And you notice how trash Declan Rice has looked? Same as Jorginho. It's almost as if they not playing alongside each other at Arsenal have exposed their flaws.

Listen, Jorginho isn't the total package, but Declan Rice can't control a pass to save his life. There's more people with Declan Rice's skillset--big, physical mids--than there are with Jorginho's.

I don't feel like Jorginho is causing Italy it's problems. We know what he is, and what he isn't. If Spalletti is going to leave Jorginho in the middle defending two-on-one's because everyone is scrambling to double-up on the wings as the fullbacks can't stop getting nut-megged and blown by, then it's obviously trouble. Jorginho isn't in the middle because he can, or should be expected to, impose his nonexistent physicality.

It also should go without saying that the forwards on Arsenal bring a lot more to the table than Italy's, probably even on the defensive side of the ball. Arsenal can take it to most of their opponents. Odegaard, Martinelli and Saka are big talents.

Rice is your typical English player. Take away his foreign teammates and he's overrated.
Same with Gerrard, Scholes, frank lampard. When did they ever show up for a big game for their queen?? Never

Germany Spain likely play at the last 8 for what its worth and Portugal on that side of the bracket. With hopefully Italy England France Belgium on the other side.

I agree that Italy’s problems go beyond Jorginho. But 2024 Jorginho doesn’t work on this team in whatever formation you can conjure. The only thing he brings is sterile possession.

I feel other nations have and are finally catching up to France, especially showing this tournament (just not us) We just lack decent wingers, Doku is such a fantastic player to watch, what we are missing.

He’s good, suffers from the modern plague of wanting to walk the ball into the goal. Dismal finisher. Beyond awful at shooting

Possession of any kind would be nice, although I suppose he shares that blame from last match as much as anyone else.

I assume we want Germany to win today since that would mean one of Switz or Scot or Hungary if we get through at 2nd place.

Germany better pick it up in the 2nd half. Their play in the final 1/3 has been atrocious.

I don't think he's been given much time. he had some random appearances off the bench in 2022 then did pretty well in 2023 qualifying then had injuries and came in just before the tournament after he found form.

Yes he has 18 caps but majority were as a substitute after results were secured and he's not an impact sub as we've seen with Atalanta where his goal contributions are nearly 1 a game when he starts and near zero off the bench.

He's only played 811 minutes for Italy in those 18 caps. I thought he was fantastic against Albania and even when Mancini first brought him in I thought it was a drastic improvement over Immobile for his ball control alone. I honestly don't care if he scores right now he still makes us play better. The only time he played significant minutes for us until these Euros was in the Nations League and we looked reborn in those games.

Wunderbar (my best Derek Rae impression)

If Italy do finish in 2nd, it's Germany not Switzerland afterall. Unreal. Finish in 3rd and it's the bacala's. Fan********ingtastic.
