These sentiments, stolen from Upstairs (in the Euro-specific general discussion, no less), are good for some fun:

Ah, yes, when you define "major tournaments" as the ones that must go through the US. And then oddly there's no mention of Team Sweden's pasting of USA in the last Olympics. Remember, Sweden always starts slow and would rather have weak opponents at the beginning... :ROFLMAO:

Hmm, hmm, "playing an experimental lineup or some such", what's a good example of that? You mean like taking out your starting goalie at the last second for no reason other than some sort of superstition about Brazil? Teehee, yeah, that one stung a bit, I'll grant you, and I'm not surprised if, 15 years later, fans of Team USA are suspicious of "experimental lineups"!

But how entertaining France v Iceland turned out to be in the end. Given that France was playing at half-gas, still, Iceland showed a lot of heart (if not quite the individual quality) and the fans were spiritedly booing Wendy Renard (who I generally like) in the last half hour or so for diving (there was some pushing and chippy behavior there).

Right, quarterfinal night, and I've got the heebie-jeebies.

DN has this article which, when you look at the article itself, has the headline "Win or go home [more or less] for corona-smitten" Sweden.

I prefer the shorter, more dramatic version of the headline that you see at the main page: "Vinna eller försvinna för decimerat Sweden." Decimated!! Nice to see the word used literally instead of figuratively.

Although I suppose it might even be an undercount. To review: Glas and Kullberg are definitely out; the team is being cagey about Andersson; Seger's availability is also unclear; Bennison and Falk are available (or at least the trained with everyone yesterday).

Fans of Stona Blackstenius might also like this article, in which she explains that she's glad to not be shy anymore.

This game against Belgium is totally nerve-wracking. Perhaps I need to go organize my sock drawer. Bonnie, if you're watching, you definitely need to organize your sock drawer!

Paired and stacked and in rows according to wavelength! I used lasers.

The stadium is playing "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!" again.

Anyone else catch Gerhardsson's head shake after the initial joy at the goal? Oj då, the emotions!

The ABBA continues: For some reason, Finnish TV is showing a montage of Wiegman and Gerhardsson gesturing wildly on the sidelines, to the tune of "Super-Trooper."

... and now a reprise of the 1984 Euros (the mudbowl that Sweden won) to the tune of "Angel Eyes"... what a strange choice... ABBA is suitable to many occasions but the songs cannot be substituted willy-nilly).

I had never suspected Bronze actually had so long hair inside that elaborated chignon. o_O

England apparently has special offsides rules applied to them.

Kinda want to see England win it all to give them that extra boost to women's soccer at home.

Kinda want to see them get curb stomped in front of a sell-out home crowd.

    Norway sends their sympathies.

Also, my Seger shirt is still in Tennessee, so I assure you it wasn't that.

A Lindahl's close-up was shown on the camera just after Russo's goal, while she was muttering something: I am not sure I want it traslated from Swedish... :cautious:

Whaaaa... what happened? Where am I, who am I? The last thing I remember I was headed for the door to find that passage back to the place I was before... and that was a few weeks ago now. Well, anyway, I haven't checked news yet but I'm sure it all went well, and that Sweden beat Germany in the finals of Euro 2022, as God clearly intended when he did the draw.

This, though, stolen from Upstairs, is pretty funny:
