I'm not really concerned about getting my money back but I'm pretty sure any tickets will be for locals only. A bit of certainty would be nice but that's been in seriously short supply about anything for the last year. It's a bit much for UEFA to demand guarantees from Glasgow and Dublin on numbers when they'd be lying if they offered it, and all UEFA have been offering is maybes all year, even on refunds. I'd prefer if they postponed it till next summer but that doesn't look like happening, or definite word on locals only so I can cancel my flights and hotels and plan an alternative holiday for around that time before prices shoot up.
It seems that Bucharest will ”offer” maximum 25%, I read something about 12.000 spectators (which is less than 25%). At least, this is what the romanian authorities decided (in a meeting) yesterday. In principle, this in not enough for an EURO game. But thinking that in Bucharest will play North Macedonia, Ukraine and Austria maybe this is not that bad. There was an increase of covid cases in last days in Romania (despite the fact that vaccination process goes preety well). This is (probably) the reason of this reduced capacity. Few weeks ago, the president of romanian federation declared that Bucharest will try to ”offer” a 50% capacity. It seems this is not the case anymore. At this point, I don't believe that Romania- Germany (27 march) will be be played with spectators. https://www.frf.ro/recomandate/bule...-cu-spectatori-in-tribunele-arenei-nationale/
I could understand them offering maybe's on a lot of things because so much stuff (even unrelated to football) now is a maybe. However, the fact that the one thing (other than the tourney happening in 2021) they are being steadfast and insistent on is that all twelve hosts will do as planned just bothers me. We're not a bunch of moronic football supporters who can't read a paper/website that has a new story almost every day from reputable sources about this venue may not be able to host or this country may host it all. I would have much more respect for them if they went sent out an e-mail or press release with something like, "We know you all want to go to UEFA Euro 2020 (yeah, it's stupid, but we didn't want to bin the printed merch), but we're not sure how the virus will affect our twelve host venues at this time. However, we wanted to keep you informed with the options we are looking into when it comes to the venues. The options we are looking into are all twelve venues will host as planned, eight countries will host, or it just may be one country. We're hoping that international fans can come to the venues, but that is not guaranteed at this time."
The reason I disagree with you is that it is pretty much a known fact that in June there will close to zero Covid presence in Ireland (not to mention Scotland, where even the vaccination doing great)... We will see who was right in June but if they hop out, I believe many people will be furious not to go to these games summertime.
The thing is: if rhey allow 30% of capacity, will fifa think about the sponsors first and cancel our tickets ? Will sponsors and vip be the priority ?
The Scottish Government looked at genomic sequencing data from last summer which showed that the virus had all but been killed off by July, it was new variants brought back by holiday makers and visitors that set it surging again. They're determined not to make the same mistake again. I can see a fair number of spectators being allowed to attend, but locals only, and expect other countries to take the same approach. I see my chances of being able to use my tickets for games in Budapest and Munich as minute.
Yeah, local fans only a possibility unfortunately. If you cannot attend Budapest, I have some friends who would take them.
It is UEFA not FIFA. However do you really need an answer to that question? Hospitality tickets remain on sale for all games. I'm glad I kept my tickets (almost all) and know my money is safe. However fans will be way down the priority list after sponsors , hospitality sales etc.
Yes, although for some of the host stadiums 30% is still a lot of people. Its not much less than the entire capacity of some stadiums that hosted Euros in the not-too-distant past. For e.g. 30% of the Allianz in Munich is 22,500. Most of the stadiums used for Euro 2008 had seating capacity of around 30k. So there is still a chance for real fans. Just hope the 30% (or ideally 50%) can be achievable.
There will definitely be real fans. However still selling hospitality when it looks likely many fans will be forced into refunds is a bit cynical in my view. If Dublin does survive with say 11K and no travelling fans then the majority of existing ticket holders for Sweden v Slovakia will no doubt be ok. Another round of voluntary refunds might even satisfy everyone. The potential Rof16 England v France/Germany/Portugal is a different matter particularly as we are in a common travel area with the UK.
I love how you speak in absolutes! I am not sure that in anything in the future, especially now, is "a known fact." If it was a known fact, UEFA and the governments of those countries would be saying 100% capacity and no worries, everyone.
I guess uefa will cancel for all tickets categoties if they have to reduce attendance and pretty sure normal tickets will suffer the biggest cut in terms of %. They might cut 20% sponsors / vip tickets and 65% of normal tickets. If lets say they reduced 50 % of a stadium capacity, i am expecting our normal tickets to be reduced 65% and not 50%. UEFA needs cash..they will do everything to reduce their loss
This depends on how many tickets they’ve sold, and how great the demand is to attend matches from fans. I think they’ll announce plans on capacities, offer refund opportunities again, and maybe gauge interest via a signup email before forcing refunds. It would also be weird to try and anticipate capacities now, given that a lot can change month to month, esp with vaccinations that could increase exponentially.
Agreed. My expectation is still: Refund opportunity in April —> cancellation of tickets —> reoffering new tickets for the costumers cancalled May/June when the situation get better bacause of vaccination/seasonality.
I agree with you. Given that the host cities don't have to confirm their plans until 7th April that timetable sounds about right. Not a heck of a lot of time to make arrangements though, particularly if you're thinking of travelling to another country.
Yup, and during the cancellation process I wonder if they’ll give priority to ticket holders who have been vaccinated (ie don’t cancel their tickets). Seems like a safe way to guarantee cleaner logistics when planning for possible expanded capacities as the months go on
From the sounds of things, cities must give UEFA a firm number by April 7 and will then be asked to reconfirm at the end of April with the assumption the numbers may be better by then in terms of capacity. Would still love an update how many tickets are currently sold per match/city. Interested to see how many people already returned them.
Japan is more conservative, but wonder if UEFA is just punting the inevitable. https://www.skysports.com/olympics/...ut-overseas-spectators-says-kyodo-news-agency
It’s definitely making me a bit fearful, but hoping it’s precaution because it’s such a global event. The euros should adapt to allow European (incl UK) and nations that are rapidly vaccinating (such as the US). Also proof of vaccination needs to be a thing here
I totally get what you are saying, but the difference is there is just more of a possibility of spread these Euros with the jet setting around that a lot of people will be doing. It's not much different than the Olympics where you may be going to multiple venues during the tournament. The proof of vaccination really doesn't fully limit the spread, sadly, because you can still get it.
Bro, just stay under your rock already. It is getting ridiculous. You can still get it, yes, 90% less chance and 90% less time being contagius, so yes theoretically you can still get it but ta lot of things can happen theoretically, you cannot live in an absolutist world when you only accept zero risk. Iceland is a nice country druing the summer, it is an island you can limit the ones which are coming in which you have done perfectly. Just please stay there and do not even comment on this thread. It is really disturbing listenning over and over again to how we cannot hold the Euros with fans and travelling. Life is about living not just existing and avoiding death. As I said, in June, there will be almost no virus present on the northern hemisphere just like last year and every year for flu and coronavirus like illnesses and vaccinations will be given almost everybody who has any real chance to suffer badly because of this virus by then. So it is really not a problem if it spreads (it will not because of season factors) if the ones who get it do not really suffer. Remember how we look at flu? We do not care if we get it and we do not limit lives because of it. The vaccines make covid a flu by saving the 30% most vulnerable who has any chance of dying or getting seriously ill. Look at what is happening in the UK or in Israel. This will be Europe in May and it will be even stronger because of the seasonal change. And do not come with a few examples when a younger induvidual became ill with no previous comorbities. Yes it can happen one in a million but by MINISCULE chances and even less of a chance if 30-50% are vaccinated and other 30-40% got the virus naturally, the spread will be so low that the risk will be non existent during the summer. Real news: I just heard from official sources that countries have one chance to open up more capacity form their original committment at the end of April. I say they could modify this to middle of May because that is when we will see the real change of seasonality spread and relevance of the virus in most places in Europe. If end of April the last time they can change capacity I am afraid we are missing out on a good chance of hosting even 70-100% stadiums.
