Yeah I have no doubt but you guys are facing the reigning World Cup Champions France in a Euro 2016 rematch in group stage and then Germany is back on the come up with their restructured firepower and the 4th team in the group still has to be determined by playoff
yes and the other teams are facing the reigning European champions and nations league winners... In 2021 Portugal can portentially have an even better team with Bruno fernandes, Bernardo, and Felix getting more experience. Portugal will be a strong candidate for euro 2021 and World Cup 2022. I think after 2022, ronaldo May retire .
I agree Portugal for me is definitely a dark horse to repeat as European champions especially if Ronaldo carries the team on his back single handedly but for Qatar 2022 Portugal is a favorite as far as potentials who could win it all
I sort of agree, I’m actually thinking we may be a stronger candidate for Qatar 2022 especially as it will be played in the winter which quite frankly is probably better for CR7.
there is an article on a bola which notes that Eduardo Quaresma is related to the Brazilian legend Zico (one of the best players of all time). for those who don’t know, Zico has recent Portuguese heritage and I believe is a dual citizen. He is also supposedly a fan of Sporting.
Plus with a core of Cancelo, Sanches, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, etc let's just say that even without CR7 they still are a deep enough team but with CR7 they are formidable
Yes and Fabio Silva from Porto will have more experience , he will be the best pure striker Portugal has produced at least since Pauleta.
I think the year delay for Euro 2020 benefits Portugal. Unfortunately, it also benefits other nations such as the Netherlands who would have been short handed. It also allows nations like Germany to continue their resurgence. Interesting point about Qatar, though. It being played in the winter would certainly benefit Ronaldo, but, truthfully, in another 2 years or so how much more will he have declined, and at that point, how much better will he be in comparison to the guys place on the bench he is taking just because his name is Ronaldo? Interesting nonetheless. My biggest concern for Portugal moving forward... CB.. aside from Dias, i dont see any guys on the verge of big club/world class status. Just guys with 'potential'
Yeah I mean Ronaldo after Euro 2021 he could decide to end his international career and if he does, then where does Portugal go from there?
But for a more updated Final 23 Man squad for Qatar for Portugal Starting XI (4-4-2 formation) GK- Rui Patricio LB- Raphael Guerriero CB- Ferro CB- Ruben Dias RB- Nelson Semedo CDM- Danilo Pereira CM- Bruno Fernandes LM- Renato Sanches RM- Bernardo Silva LS- Joao Felix RS- Cristiano Ronaldo Bench GK- Marafona, Jose Sa LB- Mario Rui, Ricardo Pereira CB- Domingos Duarte RB- Joao Cancelo CM- William Carvalho AM- Joao Mario, Bruma FW- Andre Silva, Goncalo Guedes, Diogo Jota
Eduardo Quaresma looks promising indeed, but he just turned 18 years old. I’m not sure I’d look to him being full time a national team option in Qatar.
By Qatar 2022 he will be 20 years old in the next 2 years...I think I can see him being a full timer by then
EURO 2021 basically for Portugal is like a dress rehearsal for Qatar 2022 and for Cristiano, he can use Qatar 2022 as his "Last Dance" much like Michael Jordan did for the Chicago Bulls.
Uefa.TV has a catalogue of free games from past Euro's to watch, both club and country. Many of them include Portugal: Portugal England Euro 2000 Portugal France Euro 2000 Portugal Holland Euro 2004 Portugal Greece (final) Euro 2004 Portugal Germany Euro 2008 Portugal Denmark Euro 2012 Portugal Hungary Euro 2016 I've watched them all over the period of the last month, except the 2004 final...I haven't been able to gather the wherewithal to gut that one out since the actual game.
Same. "Hey, we brought on Rui Costa to score a crucial goal against England in the quarter finals. Let's leave him on the bench for all 90 minutes against Greece". Scolari is an idiot.
Well he may be but with him as your coach didn't you guys make it to the Final of EURO 2004 and didn't you guys make it to the Semi Final of Germany 2006 and make it to the Quarter Final of EURO 2008 with Scolari as manager? I would call that a pretty good run as Portugal manager
