Wow - well as a Qatar resident I'm absolutely stoked about this.... https://www.qatarliving.com/forum/s...u-RFM8RULHyOvudUU0ex1UIq-To1fP1zOtnsg9bTIlwRQ Bumped into a few of your guys the other week for the Russian Match Premier Cup. Maybe made such an impression they decided to come back with their team mates
Dont look now but Raphael Gurreiro has been superb for Dortmund the last 2 and a half months. He played as a left wingback vs PSG but has been leftback for the most part and has been excellent. Dortmund fans are absolutely thrilled with his performances. A lot of goals/assists. He just needed to stay healthy for an extended period of time. William Carvalho has been playing for Real Betis the last month, so thats great news as well. Add in Ruben Neves picking up form over the last little while for Wolves and Bruno Fernandes having a really solid influence for Manchester United and I'm starting to get quietly excited for the Euro's....
Nowhere near good enough imho. William/Ruben Neves as holding midfielders with Danilo in the mix Moutinho/Bruno Fernandes/ and a resurgent Renato Sanches who has been playing well for Lille. I dont think he adds anything...just reminds me of the average players we had from 2008-2016ish

I agree probably not enough room for him to make the team but he should be kept in mind for a potential backup in case there are any unfortunate injuries prior to the tournament.
Only comment about Guerreiro i found in their post game thread. So by the sounds of that comment Guerreiro is still regularly awful in defence. No thanks, he has cost us enough games as it is!
Thing is, Raphael hasn’t been playing as a fullback in a flat back four. They’re playing with 3 central defenders in a 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 which takes a lot of the defensive responsibility away from a fullback. He’s brilliant offensively, but I agree with those who feel he’s too weak physically and doesn’t have the defensive consistency to play that role for us in a flat back four.
Might not even be a Euro this year because of corona, Its staying home lads! 4 More years! The trolling continues!
You know? I had never thought about that. I wonder at what point would they contemplate it? Italy is shutting down the country it seems, lol. Realistically, though.. i dont see UEFA not going through with this.. even if a health hazard is there.. on top of that, i would like to think we as a people can control this virus within the next 4-5 months.
This is what matters most. Raph is best when attacking and his role(s) with Dortmund play to his strengths. However, he plays in a traditional LB role for Portugal that he never plays consistently at the club level. Yet Santos always relies on him at LB because of his talent, a lack of clearly better options, and because he has excelled there in the past. But at some point Santos needs to come to terms with the fact that he’s not getting Euro 2016 Raph back unless/until he plays LB at the club level again. The Guerreiro-Portugal conundrum is not dissimilar to that of Matt Doherty with Wolves/Ireland. He’s a right wingback for Wolves and has been largely fantastic for them the past couple seasons, but Ireland plays four in the back, so Doherty barely sees the field - and that’s for a national team that you’d think would have no choice but to play Doherty when he’s as in-form as he has been for Wolves. Yet even when Raph was barely fit (at best), out of practice at LB and playing horribly, Santos let him play every minute at the 2018 WC.
any news on the Doha friendlies? Matches are in a couple of weeks but nothing on this end regarding tickets or anything like that. Qatar is currently closing its doors to everyone atm as the virus is spreading fast in this region. I seriously doubt a large public gathering like this goes on to be honest.
There are serious talks about postponing euro cup until 2021 due to the coronavirus. we might be campeoes for five years ....
Not sure what to make of this, where did you hear it? Only reason i ask is because i heard Uefa wants the Euro to continue as scheduled. If it was postponed, it would result in Euro 2021? World Cup 2022? Euro 2024?.. we should just do the Euro every year like the S.Americans have been doing last couple years to aid in Messi's conquest to obtain a trophy for country, lol.
The Qatar international tournament, in which Portugal was due to take part with Croatia, Belgium & Switzerland, is cancelled. https://t.co/JH4yYlHqrA— Tom Kundert (@PortuGoal1) March 11, 2020 SELEÇÃO: torneio do Qatar canceladohttps://t.co/IDqtFgf07K pic.twitter.com/sdUHBvi2S6— maisfutebol (@maisfutebol) March 11, 2020
So what is the national team going to do now. It would be good To use the time for Something. Hopefully They can have a televised training session , I can review it and post My assessment of what Santos’ likely tactics and strategies will be for the upcoming EURO. when I’ve had matches cancelled with my teams, I always demanded the players train instead.
Honestly, aside from building chemistry (which you can only do so much of anyways in training sessions), they train every day of the year.. sure, it will keep them in top 'training shape' but it doesnt help build the team. Its a good question.. what does the NT do? This is assuming the tournament even gets held.. Italy who is staged to host the opening match is on full lock down.. I hate to say it, but, it wouldnt surprise me if the tournament was canceled to be honest.. pushing it back would then have an effect on all domestic leagues and God knows the owners arent going to allow that to happen.. too much money on the line. Maybe they should just play the other NT ranks? let them play the u-23? u-20? i dont know... very tricky situation.
