Not much Spurs interest - can only think of VdV and Modric/Kranjcar who will be there. Parker and Walker unlikely for England, Kaboul is out for France. Lennon seems to be out of the picture but he could give England something different. Anyone I've missed?

Which country will you be following?

Walker out injured from Euro 2012, which is worrying as they'll then try and take him for the Olympics. He's had a long season and could do with the rest, as well as being fresh for what will hopefully be a CL playofff.

Well Hodgson named Parker, in spite of his injury. i expect him to pull out. Defoe also got named. Read an interview with him last week , saying how he's fresh after relatively little playing time this year. With Rooney missing the first 2 games, opportunity knocks, Jermain.

For me, Downing is the biggest surprise out of the lot and No Peter Crouch is surprising. I would have taken him instead of Carrol.

In warmup friendlies today, Rafa conceded the penalty in the Dutch defeat to Bulgaria. Parker played 56 minutes for England.(Defoe unused sub, whaddayaknow)

Parker's achilles still looks fvcked. Seems they gave him enough painkillers to get through an hour of a friendly, but playing an intense game every 3-4 days seems impossible. I can understand why he wants to give it every chance, seeing as this is likely his first and last tournament. Hopefully he does not mess it up completely and need months of rehab though.

    Wow. A few random thoughts:

I guess my ancestors got out of Poland just in time.

I don't think I want to support these assholes by watching the games on TV.

Why do supporters' groups in the US want to call themselves Ultras? Looking at the boards here on BS, I count 3 or 4 MLS teams with "ultras" groups - DC, Chivas, San Jose and maybe Vancouver.

Here's hoping for many empty stadia at Euro 2012... particularly in Ukraine. Looks like a third world country in the videos.

I also thought about the various MLS team supporters groups that style themselves "Ultras". I wonder if they aspire to be Ultras in the Polish and/or Ukrainian manner or if they are ignorant of the association. It is also possible that it is a more generally used term and it just so happens that these groups are also called Ultras.

I've seen some over the top use of violent words by supporters in the US and I wonder if they really understand that it just isn't worth it.

I'll probably watch some matches on TV... but, how UEFA could possibly have though it was a good idea to host in Poland and Ukraine is beyond me. Despicable.

Finally. Spurs are a team with a proud association with Jewish history in London. What happens if/when Spurs play a match in one of these places? Can we demand the match be played in another country?

No, of course not. We played Shaktar Donetsk the UEFA Cup/Europa League , what, 3 years ago? Harry threw the game since he was focusing on not getting relegated. They went on to win the trophy, I believe.

I think there was some crowd fighting but nothing major.

You have to love the English press and the way they slander everything..Like there is no racism in England yet they select a racist to there squad lol..So maybe Uefa should throw Spain out of euros because there fans are notorious for doing monkey chants at black players in Spain..

That's not really the point. Spain isn't hosting the Euros, and if they were, I'm guessing there would be some attention paid to racism there.

Aside from the racist catcalls and monkey noises that one will encounter in stadia across Europe, the issue is consequences for the perpetrators, and actual threat of bodily harm. Clearly in Ukraine there is a fair bit of denial that the issue even exists; in England, the FA and law enforcement have been pretty good about prosecuting those involved in incidents of racism.

And the violence... well, you're not going to encounter that in many stadia in England. The footage they showed in the Metalist stadium was shocking and reprehensible.

not disputing that, of course, but if someone had had his cameras set up outside millwall/west ham a couple years back, and gotten interviews with the pinheads that set that little party up, he'd've been able to make a pretty damned scathing documentary of his own. and to then present it as 'here's why you should think twice about going to a tournament held in england' would be fairly misleading.

i don't know jack about polish and/or ukrainian club football dynamics, but i do know something about british sport journalism; and if you think this documentary had anything to do with fairly and accurately depicting said dynamics, as opposed to simply making it's point, i'd think again.

now, that's not to suggest in any way that those scenes aren't utterly reprehensible. they obviously are. but there's a pretty big discrepancy between the way a nation's political and sporting authorities are going to allow the presentation of their moment on the world stage and how some football club in lviv is going to sanction the very fans that constitute their finacial base. i'd be well and truly shocked if we see anything even remotely like that behavior at the euros. but why make a documentary saying 'there's a bit of serious nastiness at polish/ukrainian club football when you can be all alarmist and say 'you'll be in danger if you go to this tournament'? after all, you'll be in a ... wait for it ... stadium of hate!

I just wanted to shine some light on the environment over there and why black England players are not sending their families over to watch games live and the allocation of tickets for England has not been sold out.
