If you actually watch the replay, you would see that the ball hit the goalkeeper's left leg and somehow went to the right and into the net.The ball could have rebounded anywhere but it luckily went in.
But it didn't since he obviously hit it to a spot where the keeper couldn't react quick enough. Grading goals on "what could have happened if the bounce went another way" is simply idiotic. A goal is a goal. Nonetheless while it's fantastic that he's scoring my question is whether Gomez can do something Klose hasn't been able to do his international career.. score in semi-finals and finals. If he fails there, all those many goals will be rather useless if he can't deliver at the end stages.
Lovely performances from Schweinsteiger and Gomez. Schweini is my MOTM. Mueller and Podolski are just not involved with the play as much anymore. Both are pushed far out wide. With Klose this team looks more fluid but we are 2-0 in the tourney and Gomez is getting it done, so I doubt we will be seeing anything change. Perhaps I will put a few Euros on the next match.
One of the reasons we look less fluid is that the team is playing a far more conservative attacking game. The WC2010 side was much more like BVB than this team. I think Loew is more concerned with turning the ball over and controlling the midfield than he is with quick counters and attacking at all costs. It will be interesting to see if his new game plan will work.
