UEFA required Setanta to offer 5 games live via a non-pay-per-view outlet. As a result, the following 5 games will air LIVE on FOX Sports World US and FOX Sports en Espanol US: Denmark-Italy Croatia-France Italy-Sweden Switzerland-France Denmark-Sweden FOX Sports World US is scheduled to air all 4 quarterfinals and both semifinals via 5-day delay, and the final via 3-day delay.
Ok, so I was too busy earlier today to get this up earlier. Oliver can feel proud that he 'broke' the news. Guess he must have been talked to his sources at Setanta earlier. Anyway, he's correct. FSW will be carrying several matches from Euro 2004. To boot, for you non-digital tier types, the games also will air on FSE. The details are as follows: 1. June 14 - Denmark v. Italy - LIVE 2. June 17 - Croatia v. France - LIVE 3. June 18 - Italy v. Sweden - LIVE 4. June 21 - Switzerland v. France - LIVE 5. June 22 - Denmark v. Sweden - LIVE All 4 quarterfinals and 2 semifinals - 5 day delay The final - 3 day delay Enjoy!
I like this. Some good matchups, or at least, teams. What commentary stream will be used? Bretos and Webster together? Or a pure feed from Europe like TSN gets?
Setanta and TSN/FSW Canada are both using the BBC/ITV audio tracks. I suspect that FOX Sports World US will do the same to save labor. FSI can simply have Nick Webster do the "wraps". Note that FOX Sports Latin America is airing Euro 2004 so FOX Sports en Espanol should be using the same audio tracks.
Maybe I didn't find it definitive but... Will Fox Sports en Espanol also show the qtrfinals and semifinals on tape delay? Any help will be appreciated.
I pray they don't use their local "talent". FSW PLEASE use the original feed. I beg you (though I'll be pubbin it for the big games anyway).
Good. Although I have never heard BBC or ITV commentary so I don't know whether they're any good LOL.
When FSW airs premiership games do they use audio feed from Sky radio or something? It doesn't sound too clear even though it's live. It sounds like when local news stations use generic recorded feed from the national news service or whatever. The feed from FA Cup matches seem to be clear though, for the most part.
FSW uses feeds provided by TWI, Octagon CSI, and Sky. TWI for EPL, and mostly Sky for FA Cup, except for BBC-televised games- then they use a feed from Octagon CSI.
I guess that means Christian Miles or Max Bretos hosting the telecasts, because I'm pretty sure that UEFA won't let Sky bring a cameraman into the venues to film Nick Webster commentating.
I take it this means none of the group stage games will be aired on tape delay? In all honesty, I'd rather have the whole thing on tape delay than a couple games live. My cable company doesn't offer the PPV package, so FSW was my only reasonably-priced option. I guess I'll have to look into UEFA.com's streaming video package. Does anybody know if they archive the games, so you can watch them in-demand?
FSW should be offering other games on 3-5 day delay. And I think kevruth said UEFA does offer video-on-demand.
I have not been able to confirm that. I emailed UEFA on the video reruns and have gotten no reply. I'm wondering if the no reply means no reruns. The day Euro 2004 Action was launched the UEFA.com Action subscription aired their daily news with a two and a half minute commercial for Euro 2004 Action. As the video played an announcer says "full reruns" while text quickly flashes across the screen "audio reruns". UEFA.com Action never had audio reruns of CL. My fear is that is what we are going to get. Video highlights only, no actual full video reruns. Also, the BBC has a page on their website for live commentary of all Euro 2004 matches. I'm wondering if those outside England will have that commentary blocked so that UEFA can force everyone to get the Action Pass. The friendly involving England and Iceland was to be streamed by the BBC and you could even listen to it on the FA's website. However, the stream was turned off for me on both Five Live and the FA's website. I wonder if anyone in England heard it. I never checked back during the match to see if the BBC messed up and the stream came through. I hope some one can tell me as this may relate to the BBC's rights to stream Premiership matches next season.
I saw that these were upcoming on my Tivo, and I was very pleased, and with some good teams, no less!
Ok, TV rights experts needed here... (and another proof Canadians get much better coverage than the US... ) FSW Canada gets 8 games Switzerland vs. Croatia England vs. Switzerland Croatia vs. France Bulgaria vs. Denmark Latvia vs. Germany Netherlands vs. Czech Rep. Spain vs. Portugal Russia vs. Greece This is due to US open coverage (golf) that runs over the Euro 2004 timeslots. Otherwise, the games are free (again ) on TSN (pretty much Espn Canada where hockey rules). Now, my problem with this is why the heck would TSN (owned by Bell Canada and ESPN if I'm right) would help promote a competitor like FSW Canada (owned by Global)? Would it be more in their interest to promote another Bell channel (like the boring OLN) like what was done for Euro 2000.
The CRTC has strict licencing restrictions on the content of each channel. When TSN put Euro 2000 games on OLN Canada, a number of competitors complained to the CRTC. OLN Canada is licenced by the CRTC to air "outdoor sports", not traditional pro team sports. For 2004, TSN is forced to sublicence those 8 games to a channel that is licenced to air soccer, namely Global TV's FOX Sports World Canada service.
Kevruth I listened to the England Iceland game on Five Live and the whole game was on here in Connecticut
