I believe Luton have the most, or close the most clearances in the Champs - a random stat I stumbled over a few days ago - fwiw. They clearly have a good cola-level D. But he makes a few saves every game, and some games he makes them all. That's never a bad thing.
He has also had to deal with constant changes to the 3 CB line due to injuries. The D has been strong but they also are under pressure a fair amount as Luton has not scored a ton of goals only 45, the 3 teams above have scored 58, 65 & 74
Well, Luton Town helped themselves, while pretty much all the other mid-week results went against our contending YA clubs. Sheffield Utd turned a 1-0 deficit into a 1-2 victory. A loss/draw would have helped our guys. Middlesbrough led 1-0 but drew 1-1 Norwich City led 0-1 but drew 1-1 West Brom led 0-1 (Dike!) but drew 1-1 Blackburn won Millwall won
The shots-on-goal numbers for the Ch'ship are modest. So keepers don't have to make many saves, compared to other leagues. Heck, I bet the % of completed passes is low too, far too many games remind me of beach volleyball matches.
They're a small-budget club that doesn't have the money to spend on expensive players - guys who score and the midfielders who feed passes to them. The only way to be competitive is to take a set of unexceptional players and assemble an exceptionally well-drilled and motivated unit that's underpinned by a very solid backline. There's about zero room for a flaky GK in that setup.
Finishes 1-1, a painful result after leading late. Luton is still well-positioned for the playoff, now less so for a run up to 2nd.
From that Nottingham Forest News report @LouisianaViking07/09 linked to: "No other club has seen their goalkeeper keep 16 clean sheets in the Championship so far this season."
I'm always stumped on the best way to rate a goalkeeper. Is it on number of cleansheets, saves, saves against average, number of goals conceded or simply big performances in big stressful situations?
Something of a 6-pointer today, as well as a derby - the two stadia are less than 20 miles apart, down a highway. A Luton win will all but kill off Watford's playoff chances and move them to within 3 points of second place. Ethan better be on-form today!
Luton Town 1-0 Watford at HT. Horvath has a lot of clean sheets this season (#LV), but it seems to me that LT has lost a lot of points fairly late in games - to PKs and even own goals.
Dunno about that. After today, they've played 19 games since the restart and won 13 of them, with 3 draws and 3 losses and they've won 4 of their last 5, conceding only 1 goal. That's a pretty decent run in anyone's book Interestingly, today's win puts them in touching distance of the play offs and next weekend sees them face off against Millwall, who are actually in the playoffs as of 3.00 pm. After that it's: Blackpool - in the relegation slots Rotherham - barely out of them Reading - probably safe, but badly off-form(1 point from the last 5 games) Blackburn - in the playoffs Middlesboro - in the playoffs Hull - already safe (at home) It's in their hands and a late run saw them do make the playoffs last season. I wouldn't put a lot of money on them not making it again this time
