Gets no respect... ESPN announcer: "What a great save by Mignolet!" He did apologize for messing that up.
It was a very good save. Unfortunately, he was beaten by the next one. It was near post, but the defenders were way too tentative in the box and the Genk AM was allowed to turn his man on the right and then drill a left-footed shot in at the near post. Not really Ethan's fault.
Is doing really well. He made a couple of good saves, couldn't do anything about the goal. The defender letting his man turn is a 16 year old youngster making his debut. Born in Jan 2005. I feel old.
Genk get a second, off a VAR penalty that was probably given against Ethan. Even with VAR, it's a dubious award. Without VAR, it'd never have been given in a month of Sundays.
I'm pretty sure that was not against Ethan but against the defender for the shove in the back, the announcer even said that VAR was playing it back to where the defender made contact.
You're right, it was the defender's "push" rather than Ethan getting the ball that was called as a foul. Even so, it was a very, very questionable decision. The kind of decision that reminds me of one of Brian Clough's wisecracks after a really poor decision cost them a game: "I have made it a policy of mine to never comment about the referee's performance, and I am not about to break the habit of a lifetime because of that prat!"
A little write-up on his former colleague and rival, Karlo Letica who finally played in the Serie A on Saturday for Sampdoria. https://www.voetbalnieuws.be/news/595937/club-brugge-zet-toptalent-helemaal-buitenspel
Watched Horvath's performance in his 2nd appearance of the year which also happened to be Brugge's last game of the season. I thought he was magnificent under the circumstances but it is clear Horvath needs a lot of p,t so I hope he starts for USA in NL games.
No kidding. Let's speculate a little on his value, nontheless. Horvath is the 2nd in line at Club Brugge which, if I heard right, have about 6 titles in 8 years, or something like that, in the Belgian first division. The kind of gk they would want would be somebody who they think can take the team to its usual title if the first in line gk is injured or is n/a. In this case, MIgnolet is the starter and he has a long history of top level goal keeping - Liverpool, e.g.. Ann outsider looking in would likely be interested in such a pedigree. Add that he could become an ESPN star as an American international. Add that he played strong v. Italy for USA. Add that he was team of the week in the UCL group stage not long ago. Add that he is still young for a gk. Add that he was in process of nailing down the starting job when Mignolet suddenly popped up. I think he should have interest and he better have interest because he needs real games at this point.
I'd like someone to calculate what he makes per 1st-team-game-hour the last few years... then offer me that for a 35 hr work week.
Untrue! (I'm not really all that materialistic.) Now, call me an experientialistic greedy SOB, you get no argument at all.
Fair point. His value was highest at the end of the 2018-19 season. Unfortunately, the club went and grabbed Mignolet and folks forgot about Horvath. Hopefully he stars in the Switzerland match and it draws some eyeballs.
