    So who does everyone think will be up for Soccer Player of the year (I think it should be called Footballer) I think it'll be Timmy, Cletus, Landon and Ruiz. (they take it from the MLS, not international)

    Considering in the ESPY ads they've actually shown Donovan and said his name I think he's the favorite. Are female soccer players up for the award or do they have their own?

    theres a separate Best Female Soccer Player as well...my guess itll be Ally Wagner or that chick that scored 4 times against Canadia

    I don't see any reason why Freddy Adu won't win. :)

    well since it's espn I could see landon and mia winning because those are the only two names most people recognize. they could win by default.

    no ... and the easy way to tell is that the perpetual hype machine that is espn hasn't been shooting it's wad on ESPY commericials. they are the biggest bunch of self promoters around. not that there's anything wrong with that. maybe.

    It's should be Friedel, although Landon will probably win it.

    Let's see...last years nominees were Donovan, Thorton and Chacon. So this year I'm going to guess....

    Donovan
    C.J. Brown
    Duncan Oughton

    Someday I'll understand "why" Mia won so many ESPY's!!!

    I still think Meola should have got it in 2000!

    Some guy's prediction at ESPN (I'd give a link but I already feel guilty bringing attention to this nonsense):

    CATEGORY: BEST MALE SOCCER PLAYER

    Early Favorite: Landon Donovan. He's young, photogenic and the kids love him.

    Sleeper: Brad Friedel. Top goalie in top English league (as a Yank!)

    Buzz on the Rest: David Beckham (Could contract dispute cloud voter judgment?);
    Oliver Kahn (Became first goalie to win World Cup MVP);
    Ronaldo (Star of World Cup, but enough U.S. appeal?);
    Carlos Ruiz ('02 MLS MVP is one of the world's best scorers)

    Having enough "US appeal" is an issue for Ronoldo but not Kahn?

    I love how they throw out a few international names of players they've heard of as if this is some kind of presigeous international award. And as if the voters even know the first thing about any of these guys. Something tells me the nominees will consist only of players who would actually show up.

    edit: maybe those are the official nominees, you can vote for them in an online poll. I say vote for Kahn just to confuse things.

    I predict I won't watch the ESPYs. And that I'll be happier the day after they air, because the promos will stop.
