We know who votes on the Fox list, which probably explains why LAG gets a nod. Do we know who votes on or creates the ESPN list? I am as rabid an LAG fan as you will find, but I still think GaLAxy needs to do a lot more in international play to even be considered for the top 25 in the world. The Fox list was fun, but I don't think we should be misled into thinking it is an accurate reflection of where LAG ranks in the world teams.
Anyone who thinks that the Galaxy are a top 25 club team in the world simply because they won the MLS Cup is smoking some serious crack. Seek immediate professional attention.
If LA Galaxy had won the Open Cup, the MLS Cup convincingly, and an international competition, they would be on the list. I am curious why America is on the list. Not to be insulting, but what have they done to get on the list?
When the Galaxy beats America (which they can do) Then I guess they would be 17th in the world. America played a MLS team a few months back and tied or even lost (but I could be on some NY crack) most of Americas starters played that day cause fans had paid good money for tickets.
Cruz Azul tied Deportivo la Coruña at Teresa Herrera Cup. So, buy your logic, the currently number 7 team in Mexico have Champions League level and would be a top team at Spain.
A lot more than LA Galaxy. They were semifinalist on Copa Libertadores with the best record of all teams at that competition, they won the Mexican Championship and currently they are leading the Mexican League.
It may be 'fun' to look at polls like this but I don't know how anyone can possibly take them seriously. Talk about trying to quantify the unquantifiable. Neither the Fox poll nor the ESPN one are worth the paper they're printed on.
Club America played San Jose in September at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The final score was 1-1. Many of Club America's starters played the first half, as you say, because the fans paid money to see them. Few Quakes starters played that game. I don't think you can put much stock in the final result, since neither team took the game very seriously. Nobody got injured, which was the main concern of most Quakes fans as the game was held the final week of the MLS regular season. Here's the post-game thread from the Quakes forum for this game.
Comparing the Fox or ESPN poll to a poll lilke the BCS which has some scientific (albeit controversal) data to back it up, is as silly as saying the Galaxy are a top 25 team in the world. Take your blinders off.
