According to sport.es, and reported by Brian Lewis of the NY Post: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/soccerblog/reports_rafa_marquez_reaches_tentative_YHKkroTFwFF0XM20XMHB9I The most telling quote in this article however, is Hans Backe's.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Red bulls fans have to be excited that they're finally going to have a decent team. Too bad they'll be so many bandwagoners joining the ranks of people who have legitimately supported their club for so long.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York A Colombian, a Frenchman and a Mexician walk into a bar... ...and they all order an energy drink.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Red Bulls vs Galaxy (assume Dinho coming too) in august would be massive! Massive crew fans!
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York I'm really curious to see how his exit from Barcelona plays out. Are the Red Bulls picking up the tab, or is he buying himself out, or what?
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York God forbid this gains us any fans! Who in the world reads these forums and thinks this way? Don't we WANT soccer to take off here? I know I do.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Actually a lot of BigSoccer's MLS and US forums are very Dungeons and Dragons/Magik The Gathering-like.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York That is yet to be determined, the new additions quality is well documented, however that doesn't always translate into better league position. Given the Franchise's struggles to attract and more importantly retain fans, I doubt to many people will complain and the FO surely will not.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Let's see...I loathe the Red Bulls (see profile)... ...and I loathe Rafa Marquez... It's the Perfect Storm! If this comes off, kudos to the NYRB FO...
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York So if he did sign with New York the remaining team will split the $250,000 ($16,667) fee that New York has to pay for a thrid DP. Does that money increase the other teams salary cap by $16,667 or does the owner just pocket it.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Increase, but what you can do with $16K is debatable. They really should have made it a bit higher, but thems the breaks. The real questions is how long till Rafa gets his first red card? I'd say 2 games.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York He gets a yellow at the gate when he lands in the US.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York It helps heal the pain from not getting Sal Zizzo in the lottery!
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Hey! how about some of us who were too young to play D&D?
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Don't like NY, hate Marquez, but this is good for the league.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Nah, they're still pining away for the Cosmos. The team has to be in one of the five boroughs, don't you know.
Re: Marquez reaches tentative agreement with New York Too bad that Chicago didn't get Marquez because that's the team that really needs a good defender (and a keeper).
