Last weekend's "event" would be a prime example of my question. But if ESPN2 (or original for that matter) is airing something that goes over it's time frame, what are the chances that the next program (one being cut into) would air on ESPN/2 Alternate?
They sure do on my Dish system and they are often used during multiple baseball and hockey games. The rest of the time they sit there with the ESPN logo on them (or something) I also wonder why they can't just switch over and put the game there. Does anybody here know??
DirecTV has them as well. Some digital cable systems may have them. GoDC has it right. Utilize ESPN2 alternate for the overlap, then JIP the MLS game (or whatever) as soon as the first event finishes. Of course, if you run into something like Sunday's NBA/NHL conflict, use the other ESPN if that just has time-fillers (strongest man, billiards...) For those of you who weren't watching, last Sunday ESPN was showing an NBA game that went over into a NHL game. NHL game was delayed, when finally they showed it on ESPN2. When ESPN became free, they showed the NHL on both channels. At 2:30, they switched the NHL game to exclusively ESPN. Of course, if the other primary network is showing nothing, they can't do that. But with 2 primary and 2 "reserve" channels, the options are available for whatever live sport is being JIP'ed. There has to be some contractual/rights issue we don't know about.
RSN alternates and CBS alternates and ESPalternates don't just pop up and exist - they have to be programmed and planned for. They're for preplanned regionalized feeds, not last minute overlapping events (like little league WS games going 12 innings, or tennis matches running long). Anyone remember the old 1996 Thursday night espn2 games? There was a Pete Sampras tennis match that went five sets and ran over all but the last five minutes of the scheduled MLS match. It sucks, but it happens.
Hm, Chandler. Good choice. Is this going to be your idiom for the season, kenn? Posting one liners under linked images? I'm glad I got DSL.
Well done. ::scribbles:: Don't be such a wiseass. ::scribbles more:: Look harder for smaller images. ::scribbles even more:: get out more
