Good news if you're a Spectrum Charter subscriber, you now get ESPN+ for free: https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/espn-plus-charter-spectrum-tv-no-extra-charge-disney-1235933649/
For "free" and they mean "included with your price that comes with the usual price increases due to higher programming costs."
Meanwhile, some Latin American countries now have Espn6 and Espn7. https://www.espn.com.uy/television/...star-plus-lo-mejor-de-la-programacion-de-espn
I just saw the FA Cup Final will remain on ESPN in the USA through 2028. I don't pay attention to this as much as I probably should. Isn't it usually ESPN+? It'd be great if it could make the jump to a 2.5 hour window on linear TV with extra coverage on ESPN+. I remember when Setanta had the rights and they'd start coverage at something like 6am ET with coverage of the buses traveling to Wembley.
Yes I think it’s been exclusively on Espn+ for quite a few years now. I do like your idea of extended shoulder coverage streaming.
I just watched the preseason matchup ARS-MNU, two hours late. Game was on ESPN what at full time right before (meaningless) PK’s they switched coverage over to ESPN+. I watched the PK’s 2 hours after they’d happened, and yet they somehow managed to run commercials during the first two spot kicks. How can they do this in the first place, but then not fix it in post??
Lol I watched on ESPN game for first time in a long time and what are these commentators it is like watching baseball or handegg so much meaningless talk while game/passing the ball is going on is this a push from ESPN but watching a games with commentators even from other countries tries on language that I understand is crazy difference
Yeah, that was Adrian Healy and Casey Keller on the Arsenal match. And they did so little PBP that I assume they just didn’t want to go to the trouble of learning the numbers and names of all the random young players. Haha
I have to applaud ESPN for switching the match to espn+ when it was over. They should have deleted the entire PK shootout from the replay as well though. Complete waste of time.
ESPN+ prices rising on Oct 17. https://deadline.com/2024/08/disney-prices-hikes-streaming-plans-disney-hulu-espn-1236032699/
A $1-2 increase over the course of a year isn't greed, it's pricing according to inflation. It's insane that people think that it shouldn't happen. The $6 increase for live channels is the cable channels desperately trying to stay in business.
I know I’m just say in the long run it might get that way but I do love streaming over cable any day.
The 20% increase in espn+ since mid-2022 is somewhat in line with inflation, but the price also increased by 100% in the 18 months before that when there was minimal inflation on things in general.
That's what I don't really understand. If a subscriber to a TV service pays that provider, a lot of the money gets passed on. Now if someone has zero live TV service and solely lives off various apps, each costing under $20/mo, how are those channels gonna die off without taking the DTC apps with them? I can subscribe to HBO and Cinemax through my TV provider *or* I can pay for Max direct. If 100% of their business is via Max subscriptions, the content is still fine. I'm not sure you meant cable channels.
https://awfulannouncing.com/abc/sec-scorebug-debuts-mixed-reviews.html I'm not sure we can complain about score bugs. Holy crap. Not only is this thing atrocious, but people... actually like it?
What U shape? The orange and green one under the word "Miami" is their logo, like how Florida has the gator logo.
And now, DirecTV, DirecTV Stream and U-Verse are without Disney and ESPN channels. Apparently DirecTV and/or DirecTV Stream are without ABC channels in all markets due to the contract there. U-Verse still has ABC since that contract is negotiated with the station owners. I did hear something about how the streaming providers have their broadcast channels negotiated with the pay-TV partners (NBC, Disney, CBS/Viacom/Paramount/whoever, and Fox.) Naturally, the older TV providers don't like that arrangement. Luckily, as we know, most of the live sports on the ESPN outlets are also available on ESPN+. When Charter had a similar dispute last year, they lost a number of the smaller Disney channels (Disney XD and BabyTV being two of them), but ended up with their customers getting the basic version of Disney+ included in their bills. My guess: If there's no sign of any resolution by Friday, get ready for the long haul. Even though ESPN just has 2-3 of the "Power Four" football conferences and one NFL game per week, they still have those commercial DirecTV accounts for NFL Sunday Ticket. We still have two weeks or so until primetime programming returns. Most college football fans who aren't at their game can find a friend or a bar to go to. ABC is available with an antenna. ESPN+ has most of the games anyway, right? Or do you need to log in with your provider for the big games? (I rarely use the ESPN app unless there's something there exclusive or I'm traveling.) If you're DirecTV, are you prepared to go into the trenches for the long haul?
