http://msn.espn.go.com/page2/s/list/moves/2003.html On the normally humorous "back page" of their website, soccer gets two mentions in a look at best pick-ups/additions in sports in the past year. First there is a straight-up analysis of why Freddy Adu and MLS win with his signing (there is even an implication that MLS will be around for a long time and that the level of play ain't bad). Second, Tim Howard at Manchester United gets listed in the honorable mentions category. There was no condescension towards soccer. It is mentioned matter-of-factly as belonging amidst other major sports (although Tennis and Golf are also recognized so it wasn't a piece restricted to "major sports".
3.9% for Freddy! Looks like MLS is about to turn around....first the World Cup, then Beckham, and now Adu... then...no more pointless talk from that dude Rome
Anyone notice this below the poll? Was probably there a while ago, but I missed it. http://msn.espn.go.com/page2/s/list/greatestteenagers.html
I just started another one in the MLS news and analysis forum. Hopefully the fact that the poll is associated with an article in the biggest mainstream sports site will make it "official" enough for the moderators to leave it there. The fact that a poll is associated is now clearly listed in the thread title, so hopefully more people will jump on board and vote for Freddy.
Poll 5.3%, though not because of my vote. I place Freddy third out of this list, behind McKeon and Lewis.
