Someone give this man a job. If you have an MLS team with less than 4 wins half-way down the season - this is a serious consideration.
that's a severe shame he is the best there is would have loved to see him and jp do games all year no one has better in game insight than eric too bad the league is a bunch of ********** shits that can't have their feathers ruffled here and there they are going to have to wake up from their seclusion at some point
I don't believe this is a league decision. This was an ESPN decision. He has done more to piss off ESPN than to MLS.
this has nothing to do with the league and everything to do with espn. this is just a wild guess (hah!), but i have a feeling that wynalda had a rocky relationship with his bosses. and the fact that eric got drunk, accepted an interview with a fan/blogger, and then proceeded to tell the fan that jim rome (a douchebag, but a co-worker nonetheless) could suck his dick probably didn't help either. it's ok though... eric will end up with a job at fox sports or as a front office guy for some club.
Waldo won't have a problem finding a job very soon. Certainly either FSC or a FO job with either San Jose or Chicago.
I for one will miss Waldo! As an analysis, I think that he added a lot to ESPN broadcast. Hopefully, this isn't the last we see of Waldo. I hope ESPN regrets letting him go.
As a fan of DC United, I think there are 13 or 14 other teams I'd kill to see Eric coach. It would be lovely to see someone with unchecked arrogance, an inflated sense of his own impact on everything and absolutely no coaching experience at a high level be standing on the opposite bench. I could take or leave him as an analyst, but I don't see why shooting his mouth off in the booth qualifies him to coach.
I think he made a very nice start, but honestly by the end of last season he seemed better suited to a studio role than color commentary IMO. I think he might have excelled at an in studio weekly highlights show where he could break down the games and offer analysis -- something like NFL Matchup on ESPN.
I am really going to miss him. He was direct and was not ashamed to wave the flag occasionally and be a homer for the US. I thought that him and Jackson worked off of each other pretty well myself. He added some chemistry to some really bad games that he was asked to commentate on. Good Luck, Buddy.
Bingo!! I admit I like some of the controversy he stirs up, but please God keep him away from the commentary booth. It's painful to listen to his arrogant, condescending, uneloquant and grumpy commentary which 90% of the time isn't even related to the action on the field. Someone give him an XM radio gig, or a weekly wrap up show but let's all hope that this is the last we hear from him as a commentator.
I don't know if John Doyle would want to hire him into the organization. I remember he wasn't happy about how Wynalda played a hand in getting rid of Calloway back in 1997.
i for one can't wait for harks to start for the sake of appealing to all the soccer moms and kids of america with his non controversial and clean cut comments!
He always had a deprecating view of Metro/RB and its fans. I think it's great to see him get fired. Way to go ESPN!
Especially if Harkes keeps repeating the phrase "as well" 45 times in one half with his want to be British accent as he did during World Cup 2006 .........ARGHHHHHHH!
i thought waldo was good in the booth - he didnt pull punches one bit. he may be arrogant, but for me, it didn't diminish his positive impacts in the booth. and jim rome can suck me, too. i say it all the time. i cheered waldo for saying it. i think fsc should hire waldo immediately.
