ESPN Contest -- vote for US vs. Portugal [R]

ESPN.com is having a contest for Most Exhillerating Sports Moment of the Year. The USMNT World Cup victory over Portugal is one of this week's entries. Vote here:

    http://register.go.com/espn/mazda6/index

You have to register a login with espn.com, but supposedly this gives you a chance to win a Mazda6 (yeah, right).

The USMNT is currently in second place, and trailing by a large margin (to Vinateri's SuperBowl-winning field goal).

You don't have to register, you can skip it. But then, you won't be entered into the "sweepstakes".

As of 9:41 pm EST, the soccer game was not one of the 6 options. They must be cycling through them.

Well, it's one of the six options NOW. I just voted. It says that 'new Moments' will be posted approximately 1/23. We ain't gonna win this one, but you should still cast your vote for the USMNT. Here are the results as they now stand:

    Vinatieri's Super Kick (47%, 13630 votes)

USA Historic Victory (17%, 4942 votes)

UCONN Huskies Unbeaten (13%, 3743 votes)

    Unstoppable Tiger (11%, 3311 votes)

Hats off to Hatteberg (8%, 2399 votes)

Bates beats Cujo (4%, 1127 votes)

Did you actually register, or did you just check the current results? Someone in my office did that (without registering) and saw the first set of Moments from a couple of weeks ago, which did not include the US-Portugal game (it had Lance Armstrong, among others).

Anyway, I suspect (but don't know for sure) that if you register you will be able to vote for all sets of Moments up to now. It's worth a try, I guess.

Keep those votes coming! Don't let women's college basketball displace U.S. soccer at the 2nd place spot! Send the link to your friends and coworkers and urge them to vote for the USMNT!

    Here's the link again:

I didn't register, nor check the results - but the six voting options led off with the Lance Armstrong moment. I tried again this morning from work, and got the 6 with the Portugal game, so maybe it has to do with my cookies at home or something. I don't see us stuffing the ballot box this time, though, given the number of votes we're behind.

I just talked to someone else who had this same problem. To fix it, simply "Refresh" the page. "USA Historic Victory" should then be an option.

    Happy voting!

You know, if all the folks interested in both "The Continuing Saga of Clint Mathis's Belly" and the "Our Way - DVD" cast their vote, THEN we'd be a contender!

If you haven't voted, or know someone who hasn't voted, then for God's sake, go do your duty for U.S. soccer!
