I caught the ending of an ESPN commercial with shevchenko and an ESPN sportscenter anchor talking about why we call it soccer and they call it football. the background was in an office in bristol connecticut. did anyone see this??
It goes something like this Scott Van Pelt: So Andriy in your country you call our soccer your football. Well what do you call our football? Andriy: Football Scott: Well then why if we call your football our soccer you dont call our football your soccer? Andriy: (looks at Van Pelt like he is an idiot) haha a funny commercial i thought. kinda mocking soccer but in a joking kind of way.
"Scott Van Pelt" is either a one-time bigsoccer poster, or a sock-puppet: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/member.php?u=24963
Probably this commercial was made last summer during Milan's trip to the U.S. Sheva's wife is an American by the way.
Actually it ends with Andriy saying, "I'll suggest it." Good ad like all the other ESPN ones. I thought they were mocking linguistics, not soccer.
SVP's post strikes me as either, he's an ESPN personality imposter, or he's extremely unprofessional. Neither is worth us fretting over.
I'm just glad to see ESPN giving soccer/futbol a little mainstream exposure. I think that it is about time.
