This is the first time I've seen any programming of historical context shown prior to the MLS Cup. Maybe someday they will show re-airs of entire games in the week preceeding the game.
Is this the same documentary that came out last year? http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_HJrGkCIwYOg/SMQJdrd3POI/AAAAAAAAFa4/66mkTGF19xE/s400/MLS.jpg
I emailed them suggesting this months ago. Who knows, maybe I played some small part in them at least airing 'The History Of MLS Cup.' Next year we should try to get some sort of organized campaign going.
Oh, that doesn't mean I won't be drinking the rest of it, though. Actually, they moved it to ESPN from ABC. First time in MLS history it hasn't been on free TV.
Free tv? How many people will antennas are huge MLS followers? Considering that would be the only time they could ever watch a game. ESPN is almost as widely available as ABC.
Yep, that's why the MLS Cup is on ESPN, not ESPN2 or Classic, but the main ESPN . . . in primetime. And that was before they knew Beckham would be in it.
If they loved it would not put it on Classic On Sat against many Euro games now if they had it on ESPN2 on Sunday like 5:30 pm, that is respect for the game and fans
With the ratings that soccer of all kinds in America has been getting lately, we should use this as a push to try to get ESPN to give the SuperDraft more coverage. In particular, previews and highlights of the players, as well as mock drafts, and the opinions of coaches, scouts, and other players who have seen them play or will see them at the combine. If they can show the history of the MLS Cup (finally), I think it would be reasonable if they gave an MLS draft preview show.
this is today, FYI. 6PM Eastern on ESPN Classic. Very much worth seeing if you've never seen the DVD before.
I am watching right now, and I am really enjoying it. It is put together well, and it really makes MLS feel like it is one of the Big 5.
I'm watching it right now too. It's great watching the old clips and getting some of the inside takes and locker room clips. It's really bringing back the memories and I've even gotten a few chills from watching this stuff. It had never occurred to me that the Revs lost TWICE to the Galaxy in MLS Cup OTs, both times to strikes by Guatemalans.
