Espn Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I read Oliver's E-Mail today and ESPN2 is going to continue showing one game a week even at the quarterfinal stage. I think that they could at least show 2 games from the 1/4 finals on.
You can look forward to CL coverage changing over to ESPN Deportes. You'll get more matches that way. Well, that is if you get it.
I still say ESPN has something to do with it! ______________________________ ESPN ratings for soccer suck because they don't do a decent job of presenting the sport - quinella box, on 2/17/03
Re: Re: Espn Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oliver is tse dude who runs tse website whose name or url shall not be mentioned.
At least now they have shown an English side a couple of times. When will they ever show Manchester United?
well this is just a garbage decision - but at least now we can watch one more aerobics championship, fishing show or log cutting competition per week - i cant believe this crap - i used to think some posters were a bit hard on espn, but maybe theyre right - that network sends mixed messages
Does ESPN pay separate US/ English language rights fees for CL? I ask, because if they do, that's a lot of money they're spending on daytime programming. And when you think about how cheap ESPN original shows are to produce (especially when they're already paid for by NFL Films or Stihl Power Tools) and the number of commercials they can sell, you can hardly blame them for only showing one match per week.
sorry im not in the business of giving a crap whether espn can save a few bucks to not show the BEST available programming - maybe if they only show half of the final, they can squeeze in another strongman episode from '97
Cheerleading ratings - Twelve broadcasts in 2001 were watched by an average of 445,000 households, about the same audience drawn by billiards. BASS ratings - I couldn't find concrete numbers, but since ESPN owns its own outdoors brand, ratings are a moot point, They are an investor so they will make time for it. Women's billiards rating - The Billiard Congress of America joint ventured with the WPBA, and its marketing effort yielded a 0.53 rating on ESPN Men's bowling ratings - This season’s 0.84 rating was up 18 percent over last season, and the PBA is viewed in some circles as the “new hip sport.” Soccer rating? Well, MLS would kill for any of those numbers on cable. And I have always read (but can't find any stats online) that the CL draws equal to or worse than MLS.
In March 6.5 hours of soccer programming, all live 5.5 hours of cheerleading programming, all taped and some shown after midnight Outdoors, as pointed is a different animal because they have a financial stake in it (and it has the rating and interest to back it up) No aerobics coverage 39 hours of World's Strongest Man Their 2001 Neilson was around a 0.6 average on ESPN and a .3 on ESPN2, which is on par with the highest-rated MLS games Just some facts.
Of course, otherwise why did they show 1 game in the U.S. but 8 games in Latin America and 4(?) games in Asia? ESPN is simply the best soccer network. If you want CL coverage, simply get ESPN Latin America or ESPN PacRim. The fact that you don't get CL coverage in the U.S. is not ESPN's fault, but American's fault. That's exactly the reason why the CL coverage in the U.S. sucks. Why anyone thinks ESPN will pay a premium for a more extensive coverage on ESPN Deportes is beyond me. I mean, TEAM is not going to charge less for 6-8 CL games simply because it's presented en Espanol. If it's a bad deal for ESPN for the English coverage, it's a similarly bad deal for ESPN for the Spanish coverage.
For what it's worth, CL ratings, according to Oliver, was 0.15 a few years ago. It's in the neighborhood of WUSA...
I know I'd rather watch a World's Strongest Man competition than a CL match. Less bad hair, no diving and probably an equal amount of steroid use. Sachin
