I came upon this on soccertv.com. The following lists the games on ESPN Sentanta and PPV. Enjoy the Champion's League season. Simon T [ snip ] [ Moderator note: Please do not post full texts from other sites. Simply post a little and link to it –– GN ]
I hope this gets changed soon, I wish ESPN2 would realize not everybody wants to see English teams. Also does anyone know if ESPN Classic is going to show games this year, I was very glad they did last year but it would be ESPN's way to stop that for this year.
Glad you get to see your team, for anyone who is wondering ESPN's website says ESPN Classic will be showing UEFA CL games at 5pm ET on all matchdays except for Tuesday the 18th when they are showing a Women's World Cup game. Wednesday the 19th they start with Barca-Lyon which ought to be a good one. Now if only they would show the games in HD...
Re: ESPN and Sentanta sports Champion's league schedule day 1 I see on Zap2it listings Real Madrid vs Werder Bremen Sept. 18th ESPN2 Not the Liverpool v Porto game.... ? But on the official ESPN it is the Liverpool match. I want to see the Real Madrid game, althought the Liverpool game could be entertaining. I have directv but you can't get ESPN Deportes on there can you? Oh well maybe Setanta could get a delayed broadcast, I forget if they have ever done that. How was the UEFA broadband channel last year. And can you watch that "on demand" as I usually record my games and watch them after work. Can you watch the games online on a delayed basis, without knowing the score- (UEFA website I am refereing to. I wish Setanta would update their listings.
Re: ESPN and Sentanta sports Champion's league schedule day 1 ESPN Deportes is on DirecTV but they make you get the Spanish language package to get it rather than put it on the Sports Tier which would make more sense.
I had asked about this when DirecTV first added ESPN Deportes but I asked them to send me a comparison between Para Todos and English-language DirecTV programming Total Choice Plus (that's the 2nd tier package, right?) and I would have lost a lot by switching to Para Todos. So, what's the cheapest way to get ESPN Deportes while keeping current English-language programming? Anyone know?
DirecTV still shows the game as being Real Madrid v Werder Bremen. But it is hard to imagine them not showing the Liverpool game.
Meantime in Canada, TSN will mirror ESPN2 programming (Porto/Liverpool on Tuesday; Sporting/ManU on Wednesday) but RDS (the French language service) will be mirroring ESPN Deportes (Real/Werder on Tuesday; Barca/Lyon on Wednesday). No word yet on TLN's coverage. SA
Unfortunate news for Canadian soccer fans who are accustumed to watching Champions League games on TLN TV. I spoke to the head of the soccer department at TLN and he told me that TLN will not be showing the group stage games because of contractual demands by ESPN International, which owns the rights. In English, that can't afford to pay what ESPN International is asking for. But, TLN will be showing the knockout rounds in January. That's all I know. If you want more info give TLN TV a call at 416-774-8200 or e-mail their soccer department at soccer@tlntv.com.
For those in Canada that get the TSN alternate feed....the RDS matches will also be shown in English on TSN alternate live. Also from what I heard...the Canadian version of Setanta will also be showing a 3rd match live as well.
Setanta finally revealed their matchday 1 listings, so here is the English-language lineup for the CL (on ESPN2, Setanta, and ESPN CLassic) Tuesday, September 18- 2:30 pm (ESPN2) FC Porto v. Liverpool (Live) 2:30 pm (Setanta) Chelsea v. Rosenborg (Live) 10:00 pm (Setanta) Real Madrid v. Werder Bremen 11:59 pm (Setanta) Olympiacos v. Lazio Wednesday, September 19- 2:30 pm (ESPN2) Sporting Lisbon v. Manchester United (Live) 2:30 pm (Setanta)Arsenal v. Sevilla (Live) 5:00 pm (ESPN Classic) Barcelona v. Lyon 8:00 pm (Setanta) Barcelona v. Lyon 10:00 pm (Setanta) Fenerbache v. Inter Milan Thursday, September 20- 11:59 pm (Setanta) Sporting Lisbon v. Manchester United Friday, September 21- 11:00 am (Setanta) Rangers v. Stuttgart The late starts for the delayed games on Setanta can be attributed mainly due to the Rugby World Cup, while the lack of a ESPN Classic game on Tuesday is due to a replay of that day's USA match from the Women's World Cup.
Yup, Setanta has (finally) confirmed that they will indeed be broadcasting CL matches on the Canadian version of Setanta Sports. In fact, when you look at the tape-delayed matches, they will be showing MORE matches than their US counter-parts
For those w/ ESPN Deportes here is their CL lineup for week 1 according to soccertv - Tuesday, Sept 18 - 2:30 pm - Real v Werder (Live) 4:45 pm - Porto v Liverpool 7:00 pm - Chelsea v Rosenborg 9:00 pm - Real v Werder (Repeat) Wednesday, Sept 19 - 2:00 am - AC Milan v Benfica 2:30 pm - Barcelona v Lyon (Live) 4:45 pm - Sporting v Manchester United 7:00 pm - Arsenal v Seville 9:00 pm - Barcelona v Lyon (Repeat) Thursday, Sept 20 - 2:00 am - Roma v Dynamo Kyiv 1:00 pm - Olympiakos v Lazio 3:00 pm - Fenerbahce v Inter Milan
Glad to see Setanta is adding even more games on delay than last year (although the Man Utd. game will probably be chopped to 75-80 minutes if shown on MUTV), but it's killing me to know that I have to shell out $20 more each month at least until the end of the group stages because ESPN Deportes is the only way I will be able to see Roma when they play Dynamo Kyiv. And it looks like the only other game that will air exclusive to Deportes during the first week is Milan-Benfica unless I am missing something here. Take care.
Setanta has the same two matches at 10 pm and 12 am both on Wednesday and Thursday nights. I have a feeling that the Thursday schedule might change to include the Milan-Benfica game (as well as the Shaktar-Celtic match) instead of repeating the same two games again. Setanta is showing those games on PPV, and perhaps they don't want to reveal they are showing the games a couple of days later and perhaps put a dent in their premium audience. Just a prediction...let's see what happens.
Can hardly wait!!!!! Arsenal vs. Sevilla and Barca vs. Lyon are the two I'm most looking forward to and am glad Setanta will be showing so I do not have to see them in Spanish. Thanks for the info HDSports and Len3121
FWIW, the Canadian home version of Setanta Sports is showing the Milan x Benfica match on tape-delay on Sept. 20/07 @ 9:45 pm EST. In fact, all of the premium PPV matches will be shown at some point tape-delayed on Setanta Sports in Canada...
Thu Sep 20 06:45PM Pacific Thu Sep 20 07:45PM Mountain Thu Sep 20 08:45PM Central Thu Sep 20 09:45PM Eastern Length: 1 hr 45 min D Setanta Sports USA UEFA Champions League AC Milan (Italy) vs Benfica (Portugal) Tentatively - You're spot on.. Got this off soccerTV.
Re: ESPN and Sentanta sports Champion's league schedule day 1 Maybe. But the spanish language package costs all of $5-10/month. Big deal.
Re: ESPN and Sentanta sports Champion's league schedule day 1 Actually, it seems like the cheapest package you can get is called En Espanol and it's $19.99 per month. This will also include TyC, which is nice if you want to watch more Argentina league games. If you are only getting one or two extra games with Deportes then $19.99 is probably not worth it, but if you want to see almost all of the CL games then it might be a good deal. Then again, I was thinking this before HD sports started reporting that we might get even more games on Setanta than originally thought. Celtic games have not been shown on Setanta US in the past, so this would be a nice addition. But as a Roma fan, I'm still stuck since ESPN Deportes seems to be the only option for the first game against Dynamo and probably will be the same for the return leg.
Too late after my last post or I would just add this to my previous post under an EDIT: It looks like only 1 CL game on Setatna is reairing (Arsenal-Sevilla) so you better set the DVR with some extra time on both ends of most matches because if you miss it, you miss it (to use a Yogism). Of course that's been life with ESPN for years now, but ESPN has always been much better about starting matches on time, whereas Setanta has a nasty habit of starting just a touch early at times. Take care.
Re: ESPN and Sentanta sports Champion's league schedule day 1 FYI, Dish Network has a package of Spanish channels for those who subscribe to the English language packages, called "DishLatino Bonus Pack" which includes ESPN Deportes, Fox Sports Espanol, GolTV Espanol, and 33 other channels for $12.49 per month.
