Guys, the ESC was phenomenal, kudos to the Adam Sandler kid who brings the girls for keeping an ear out to what we're doing in the back and passing it up. Goalkeeps (I think he's that goofy looking kid who comes with a few other guys) does a great job of that too. Horns complemented our chants, good job Tico. The first ten minutes were terriffic guys, world class atmosphere, I dont think another supporters club in the country could match our intensity for the entire match, let alone the first ten minutes, WE still need to work on getting streamers back into the grounds and hopefully the flags (any word Mike?) But thanks guys, good time as always. What do you think of DC?
Quick question, How do these march-ins get organized? I moved in before all of you guys and just made it in time to see the teams enter the field. The march-in sounded like it made it to 101 during the national anthem. That doesn't seem cool. Does someone have a bullhorn or someting so that they can just yell "MARCH-IN" at 7:10 so we can be there to greet our boys? Sorry to be the downer. Otherwise 101 rocked on Saturday. I had no voice on Sunday
I was watching the game on TV, and the first 10 minutes of the match came through clear as a bell. It was harder to hear you guys from then on, but the first 10 minutes made the stadium sound full. I was impressed and it got me psyched up as I was humming along, "Dale dale dale Meee!" Great job guys
I agree, I think the march in was a little disorganized. But the ESC was great on Saturday. We were in full voice for almost the majority of the game. I do have one question.....what is the deal with the streamers? I didn't see any at all. Is that because NJ's finest decided they were too lazy to clean it up?...it should be part of the atmosphere.
I think the march you're talking about was the Red and Blacks (leftists, not DC ) We thought the entire ESC was marchin in together, did we miss it? Much props to the skins who have been drivin up from Philly to catch some games. I'd really like the ESC to march in together before each game (I know, I know, we can't waste any alcohol in the parking lot), but it sounds great when our songs are amplified by the concrete. Besides the state troopers and yellow jackets in the section throwng the Irish guy out in the beginning (they actually had a polaroid of him) and taking down the "Skinheads Against Racism" flag, the section was great. You're right, Sweeper, we have a winning team, a vocal section and lots of energy...some flags/streamers would be a nice touch. Get going on them, Mike! And to answer your question: ***************! What do you think of ***************?
but next game we should have ALL DRUMMERS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SECTION, NOT IN FRONT!!!!! makes for better noise with the chants/songs
Well, one thing they did wrong was trying to make a political protest at a soccer game. They didn't act up in any way, and were frankly so peaceful it was shocking that NJSEA tried to break it up, but still they created a situation that didn't need to be created. Think of the NJSEA as employees with a very simple goal- to maintain order. They do not let reason get in their way. Any incident you can avoid starting is one less that they will try to finish with their crafty and arbitrary skills of deductive reasoning. I can't defend anything NJSEA did on Saturday night, nor can I find any specific that the skinheads did wrong (other than mentioned above) but I can say that the best way to not have NJSEA get in your way is to stay out of theirs. 1. Political Protests have no place in 101. I am in favor of skinheads who denounce racism as much as I am in favor of anyone else who denounces it. If 200 skinheads, hairheads, suedeheads or anyone else want to drive up from Philly every game and root for Metro, great. Thing is, we have a special section for ESC members to root for Metro. Not for ESC members who are seeking to end famine, not for ESC members who are looking to repeal the Townshend Acts, not for ESC members to re-cast their social image withing the mainstream American cultural movement- whatever that is. We have a section where were are allowed to bring in banners to show support for Metro. Other banners simply do not belong. I cannot stress enough how much I have nothing against what they were doing, they were just standing there quietly holding a banner. Problem is, NJSEA isn't exactly understanding when it comes to things like this, nor can we expect them to be. It's a section for soccer fans. Events like Saturday's display jeopardize our standing with MFO, NJSEA and the state troopers. Not because we were doing something horribly wrong, but because it opens us up to question by the security peeps. We don't need to give them the opportunity to paint all skinheads as violent, or all ESC as skinheads and try to close us down. The last thing we need is for the Cops to exacerbate a situation via thier ignorance, create an incident by trying to kick everyone out, and then something (violence) happens as a result. We cannot give them the opportunity to close 101 under the guise of some bogus security concern, de-commission the ESC and then we are all back to sitting in scattered parts of the stadium b!tching about atmosphere. Regardless of the agreement with the movement or not, just leave the politics in the lot. 2. All due praise goes to the gentleman who calmed the situation down as it was nearing a boil. That dude was Man of the Match. 3. Again, I'm not telling anyone what to wear, how to act or how to root for metro. What I can tell you is that Political protests like that are going to get collective security undies in a bunch, and no one needs that. Our only agenda should be supporting our team. If we feel that our free speech was threatended, we can take action by boycotting or something, but we are on shaky enough footing with Stadium security as it is (considering the events from the Colorado game). Let's make sure that we pick the battles that make sense for the ESC.
I brought my Brother-In-Law to the game. It was his second Metro game, but his first time sitting with the ESC and he had a great time. He doesn't follow soccer at all and you guys got him chanting after a while. Good job guys. Also, people get kicked out of stadiums all the time, and we all know that NJSEA are pricks so, please keep politics off these boards!
I wanted to march in, and I've been trying to do it but at 7:10 the guys who come w/ me get impatient and do not want to wait. I looked around and everyone else was still sitting there so I figured we weren't gonna march in. We should get some kind of signal to let everyone know to gather up and march in.
You mean at Giants Stadium. At many soccer games around the world, one is not doing anything wrong by making "political protests" like what you witnessed last night--Football Fans Against Racism, etc. Hey, hey, let's call it like it was. The guys were there the whole game supporting Metro, and they were holding a flag that did not include any call of action. To call the it a "protest" is to use a very liberal definition of the word; it was not really more than someone bringing a national flag or a Korean Church banner to the game (we've seen both of those this season). But I understand your point: anyone in 101 needs to be very careful when doing anything that could possibly be indirectly offensive to anyone. Most of us know this. Those guys are fairly new to Giants Stadium, but even I was suprised that they were approached (some of the yellow jackets who came down to see what the commotion was all about were shocked themselves.) Well, anyway, a gentleman representing Giants Stadium left contact info so that any misunderstandings may be resolved. But what's a Metro season without some kind of incident??? Metro's on a winning streak and we have a competant head coach, problems with Giants Stadium security are only here to remind us that the apocolypse is not coming anytime soon. Let's not worry about it. Oh! Metro we love you!
I saw the game on tv. The ESC sounded loud. It looked like you had a decent amount of people in your section. I love the big ESC banner.
except it's kinda odd that no one is standing behind the ESC banner especially since that spot gets more tv time than on top of the tunnel.
Well, hopefully one day you guys will get so many members that you'll overflow over to the section with the banner.
I wish it get to the point we can travel to the other side of the country with large numbers of supports, much like in Europe. Who knows if that will ever happen. And if it does ever happen, to where we have to use up the one side of the stadium for our supporters...that would just make my day. I would love it. Viva Metros!!
When we get our new stadium, we should request to have a section somewhere in the middle. We would get more TV time and our banner would look great w/ us above it. Kinna what the Screaming Eagles look like @ RFK, except we would actually be singing, jumping and our team would be winning. This is of course, long-term thinking.
Being a supprter is not about TV time or Kinkos made banners......the real supporters everywhere in the world have their own section 101, right behind the goal. I like it this way.
